Everything to Know about Every Upcoming ‘Star Wars’ TV Show

The craze for Star Wars is at an all-time high, and Jon Favreau is the one who should be credited for much of it. He re-energized the franchise by creating a Star Wars universe on the streaming service Disney+ and is bringing back several fan-favorites from the original series (we cannot believe that Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan will be back).

A lot is going on in the universe since 2019. One show has already premiered and gathered a massive following, and there are quite a few others in development. Here is everything that we know about all the Star Wars shows that are coming up on Disney+.

1. The Mandalorian Season 3

The Mandalorian

Air Date: November 12, 2019 Status: Airing Studio: Lucasfilm, Fairview Entertainment, Golem Creations No. of Seasons: 3 No. of Episodes: 24

Ever since it premiered in 2019, The Mandalorian has become one of the most-watched shows on Disney+. Picking up five years after the fall of the Galactic Empire, the series follows Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal), a Mandalorian bounty hunter, who is hired to bring in Grogu (known to most as Baby Yoda). When he finds the infant, he goes on the run trying to protect it from Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito), who wishes to use Grogu for his own purposes.

After two very popular seasons, the third season of The Mandalorian will be opening on Christmas 2021 to high expectations. The second season ended with Grogu and Mando parting ways, but will they ever reunite? We certainly hope so!

2. Ahsoka

Manga On Real-Life Female Spy, Yoshiko Kawashima, Reaches Finale

Status:

Ahsoka Tano, an original character from the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars, will be headlining her own series on Disney+. The character came back in the second season of The Mandalorian and set up the entry of a fan-favorite villain in the franchise—Grand Admiral Thrawn. The main mission that Anakin’s apprentice has is to hunt down the Chiss dictator before he launches his evil plan.

A live-action Thrawn is a big draw of the series as he is said to be one of the most nefarious villains in the Star Wars universe. With Robert Downey Jr. rumored to be playing the role, we are pumped for Ahsoka’s first season!

Rosario Dawson stars as the titular character in the series, which is scheduled to debut sometime in 2022.

3. Rangers of the New Republic

Is The Platinum End Manga Coming To An End Soon?

Status:

The New Republic soldiers were introduced in The Mandalorian when Din asked for Cara Dune’s (Gina Carano) help to break a sharpshooter out of jail. Not much is known about the plot of the show, but Collider has suggested that it will follow the Sector Rangers, an intergalactic police force in charge of handling criminals.

Cara Dune was revealed as the Marshal of the New Republic and we can assume, would have played a major role in the show. However, with Gina Carano being fired recently, there is no cast for the series yet.

Creators Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni have said that The Mandalorian, Ahsoka, and Rangers of the New Republic will be connected and will culminate into “a climactic story event”. No premiere date has been announced yet.

4. Andor

Yoshiko Kawashima Wants to Become a Man_3

Status:

Diego Luna is coming back to the Star Wars-verse in Andor, where he will play the eponymous spy. Set five years before Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Andor will see Cassian in his formative years as he becomes the charismatic Rebel and espionage master.

Luna recently revealed that shooting was underway and Disney+ has announced a 2022 premiere date for the show.

Andor will star Stellan Skarsgaard, Adria Arjona, Fiona Shaw,  Denise Gough, Kyle Soller, and Genevieve O’Reilly.

5. Lando

Status:

Lando will see Billy Dee Williams and Donald Glover return to the role of the galaxy’s most lovable con man/businessman. Williams created history by reprising his role thirty-nine years after he first stepped into the shoes of the character (he was introduced in 1980’s The Empire Strikes Back) in The Rise of Skywalker, and Glover portrayed a younger version of the character in Solo (2016).

Details about the show’s plot are faint but some have suggested that the story will include the Skywalkers in some form.

Justin Simien is developing the show. Lando has no premiere date yet.

6. Star Wars: The Bad Batch

Manga On Real-Life Female Spy, Yoshiko Kawashima, Reaches Finale

Status:

Taking its name from a seventh-season episode of The Clone Wars, The Bad Batch will follow Clone Force 99, a batch of “defective” clones. The five-part team was born with highly desirable abilities and became a squad during the Clone Wars. The series will follow their adventures as mercenaries after the Wars are over.

Since the show is being produced as an animation, and so is one of the only forms of production that have not been affected by the pandemic, The Bad Batch is scheduled to release in late 2021.

7. The Acolyte

Status:

The Acolyte is a story about the time when the Jedi Order was at its peak, which is nearly two hundred years before The Phantom Menace, during the High Republic Era. It will be spread throughout novels, comic books, and of course, a television show. Apart from Leslye Headland being named as the writer and showrunner of the series, not much is known about The Acolyte.

The female-centric mystery thriller was set to premiere in 2021 but had to be postponed because of delays caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

8. The Book of Boba Fett

Status:

Boba Fett has survived the Sarlacc and is making a return with The Book of Boba Fett! The series was announced during the series finale of the second season of The Mandalorian. The Mandalorian bounty hunter helped Din rescue Grogu from Gideon before going his own way.

Temuera Morrison and Ming-Na Wen are reprising their roles as Boba Fett and Fennec Shand in the new series. Robert Rodriguez is acting as executive producer along with John Favreau and Dave Filoni.

The Book of Boba Fett is scheduled to premiere in December 2021.

9. Obi-Wan Kenobi

Nekoma High

Status:

The iconic Jedi Master is back! Ewan McGregor is reprising his role as the younger version of Obi-Wan Kenobi in the series, which will pick up after Revenge of the Sith. Disney has announced that the show will be set in Tatooine, with Obi-Wan watching over a young Luke Skywalker.

It is not only McGregor who is returning to the franchise with this show. Hayden Christensen is coming back to portray the legendary Darth Vader, who will be the primary antagonist in the series. Obi-Wan Kenobi could not come fast enough for us!

Unfortunately, we don’t know whether filming started as per schedule (January 2021). If the pandemic has not delayed production, the series will premiere in 2022 at the earliest.

10. Willow

Status:

Willow, the series, will be set a few decades after Ron Howard’s famous 1988 movie. Warwick Davis is joining the show to play the eponymous farmer/conjurer, a role that he played in the movie, too. The TV series will focus on a group of new characters, who are on a mission to rescue a young kidnapped prince.

Although we will get to see Warwick Davis as Willow Ufgood, the rest of the cast from the movie has made no announcement of returning.

Three new characters are being introduced—British actress Ellie Bamber as Dove, a kitchen maid and Willow’s apprentice, Cailee Spaeny as Kit, the kidnapped prince’s sister and future queen of the realm, and Erin Kellyman as Jade, Kit’s best friend/servant who is training to become a warrior.

No premiere date has been announced for Willow yet.

11. Star Wars: Visions

Kid From The Last Dungeon Boonies Anime Previews OP With New PV

Status:

Star Wars is taking the Marvel route and introducing an anime-style series for its fans (Marvel created the animated What If…? on Disney+). Visions will tell a variety of stories from different parts of the Star Wars world throughout its ten-episode arc.

The series will have Japanese-style animation, but the studios behind the animation have not been announced yet.

Star Wars: Visions is scheduled to premiere in the latter half of 2021.

12. A Droid Story

Status:

The series will bring together the robot duo C-3PO and R2-D2 with an unspecified new character. A Droid Story is one of the newest projects to be announced in the Star Wars universe. Very little has been revealed about it since the show is in the very early stages of production. Creators have promised an awesome show that will create a landmark in visual effects and graphics.
