It’s official: Season 14 for Destiny 2 is on the way.
Bungie announced the multiplayer shooter’s latest season today and also detailed all the new content coming to the game. Titled ‘Season of the Splicer’, it is set to kick off on Tuesday, May 11 and will run until Tuesday, August 24.
Season 14 will see Guardians and Fallen team-up to defeat the Vex. As per details revealed so far, ‘Season of the Splicer’ is guaranteed to keep fans busy for weeks with the sheer volume of new content; this will include a six-player matchmade activity, weekly pinnacle missions, the Vault of Glass raid, and dozens of new weapons to chase.
As of now, combining new and reprised, over 30 Legendary Class weapons are coming to the game. Let’s dive in and see what they’re all about.
Seasonal Weapons
Out of the six new weapons tied to Season of the Splicer, two will come with the Season Pass free track. Here’s what you can expect:
Override Seasonal Activity Gear
- Auto Rifle: The closest match, visually, is the Valakadyn, a 720 RPM Solar Auto Rifle. Expect this AR to be a Rapid-Fire Frame and deal elemental damage.
- Breech-Loaded Grenade Launcher: There’s a good chance this is a Kinetic Breech-Loaded GL since all Kinetic GLs are sunset at the moment.
- Pulse Rifle: A bullpup design points to this being some sort of Pulse Rifle. However, visually speaking, the design doesn’t match anything that is available currently.
- Sidearm: A Legendary Sidearm will be tied to the Override activity. Its archetype and damage type are unknown.
Season Pass Gear
- Cryosthesia 77k: Available at rank 1 for season owners and at rank 35 for free players. Cryosthesia is an Exotic Sidearm that deals Stasis damage and has an alternate fire that can freeze enemies in solid Stasis. Although, it seems you’ll need chain precision hits or kills to activate this alt-fire.
- Machine Gun: Available at rank 30, this Machine Gun has the same visual profile as the Hammerhead. Judging from its fire rate in the trailer, this MG will be an Adaptive Frame (450 RPM).
- Shotgun: Looks similar to the Baligant, an Aggressive Frame Shotgun. Expect an Energy 55 RPM Shotgun.
An Exotic weapon could be coming to Expunge, Season of the Splicer’s weekly pinnacle activity. But there is no information available on this at the moment.
Iron Banner Weapons
Four Iron Banner weapons, two old and two new, will be coming to Destiny 2 as a part of Season 14:
- Finite Impactor: An Arc, Adaptive Frame (140 RPM) Hand Cannon with a subpar stat package. Keep an eye out for Iron Banner perks on this gun.
- Occluded Finality: An Arc, Aggressive Frame (72 RPM) Sniper Rifle with selectable scopes, a first for this archetype post-sunsetting.
- Machine Gun: Archetype and damage are currently unknown. However, it’s most likely a High-Impact Frame (360 RPM).
- Shotgun: Archetype and damage are unknown. If this weapon can roll with Iron Reach, it might outclass Felwinter’s Lie.
Vault Of Glass Weapons
Destiny’s iconic raid The Vault of Glass will make its appearance in Season 14 on May 22, bringing with it its memorable encounters and sweet loot. VoG will also have a Hard Mode release later this year, so it’s possible that Bungie will have certain weapons tied to Normal mode and Hard Mode respectively, as was in the case of Destiny 1.
VoG Normal Mode
- Atheon’s Epilogue: A Void, Rapid-Fire Frame (720 RPM) Auto Rifle. Originally rolled with scopes instead of barrels.
- Corrective Measure: A Void, Adaptive Frame (450 RPM) Machine Gun. Since its fire rate in Destiny 1 was rather high, Bungie might shift it to the Rapid-Fire Frame archetype instead (900 RPM).
- Found Verdict: An Arc Shotgun. It will most likely be a Precision Frame (72 RPM, non-slug) Shotgun, although Bungie might change it to High-Impact (55 RPM) to compete with Felwinter’s Lie.
- Hezen Vengeance: A Solar, High-Impact Frame (15 RPM) Rocket Launcher. Since it rolled Tripod originally, expect Clown Cartridge to roll in its place.
- Praedyth’s Revenge: A Void, Aggressive Frame (72 RPM) Sniper Rifle. Originally rolled with scopes instead of barrels.
- Vision of Confluence: A Solar, Precision Frame (180 RPM) Scout Rifle. Originally rolled with scopes instead of barrels.
VoG Hard Mode
- Fatebringer: An Arc, Adaptive Frame (140 RPM) Hand Cannon, which might be Kinetic in Destiny 2. This weapon was famous for its Firefly and Outlaw perk combination. As confirmed by a Bungie developer, this weapon will return as a Legendary with some type of “fly” perk. Additionally, it may have Ace of Spades’ Firefly perk in its perk pool.
- Praedyth’s Timepiece: An Arc, High-Impact Frame (340 RPM) Pulse Rifle. Originally rolled with scopes instead of barrels.
- Praetorian Foil: A Solar, High-Impact Frame (860 Charge Time) Fusion Rifle.
- Vex Mythoclast (Speculation): Vault of Glass’s original Exotic reward, the Vex Mythoclast is a Solar Fusion Rifle with zero charge time and behaves similarly to an Auto Rifle. It was originally a Primary weapon, so it’ll likely go in the Energy weapon slot in D2.
In Destiny 1, every Primary weapon from this raid came with elemental damage. So, there’s a good chance some of these weapons will be Kinetic in Destiny 2.
Core Activity And World Loot
Guardians will have three new weapons to chase in the Nightfall loot. Additionally, the Core loot pool will also see three new weapons, each being class-specific Swords from Destiny 2’s launch.
Core activities themselves (strikes, Crucible, and Gambit) are likely not getting new weapons this season.
Nightfall Loot
- Three Nightfall Weapons: The weapons themselves are unknown but you can find out more about them here.
Ritual Weapon
It has been alluded that this season’s ritual weapon is a reprisal of Loaded Question, at least its Reservoir Burst perk. What’s more, this Fusion Rifle can be seen at the end of the Season of the Splicer trailer.
- New Ritual Fusion Rifle: Fires Void bolts and will most likely have Reservoir Burst as one of its perks.
World Loot
Bungie might be bringing back the class-specific Swords from Year 1 but not the reprised versions from Season of Opulence. Any other reprised world drops are currently unknown.
- Crown-Splitter: Exclusive to Titans, this is an Aggressive Frame Sword that deals Void damage.
- Eternity’s Edge: Exclusive to Warlocks, this is an Adaptive Frame Sword that deals Solar damage.
- Quickfang: Exclusive to Hunters, this is a Lightweight Frame Sword that deals Void damage.
