The BAFTA Game Awards was held on the 25th of March at 12pm PT/3pm ET/7pm GMT and saw some of the biggest titles of last year competing for the top spot of the best game of 2020. While there were some major names such as The Last of Us 2, Ghost of Tsushima, and Animal Crossing: New Horizons, it was Supergiant’s action rogue-like Hades which claimed the most awards.
Hades won awards for Artistic Achievement, Game Design, Narrative, and Performer in a Supporting Role which went to Logan Cunningham who has given the voice for Hades, Achilles, Poseidon, Asterius, the Storyteller and Charon. The game also bagged the biggest award of the event, being labelled the Best Game of 2020.
Hades puts you in the shoes of Zagreus, the son of Hades, God of the Underworld, as you try and escape your gloomy, subterranean kingdom. Along the way, you encounter various foes, friends and in-betweens from Greek mythology. With various weapons, buffs and blessings from your godly companions, you make your way through the various levels of Hell in your quest for freedom.
The game has received rave reviews from critics and players alike, so it makes sense that it also won the title of Best Game of 2020.
Other titles of note to PC players were Debut Game winner Carrion, Evolving Game winner Sea of Thieves, and Original Property winner Kentucky Route Zero.
Other games which were nominated for the Best Game title were Half-Life: Alyx, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Ghost of Tsushima, Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and The Last of Us Part 2. The Last of Us Part 2 won the only publicly voted category, EE Game of the Year.
