In yet another blow to sports fans in this COVID pandemic, ESPN has discontinued The Boardroom series after two seasons.
However, fans may not be saddened too much for your favourite sports talk show will return albeit in a different format.
The Boardroom features Kevin Durant, Jay Williams, Rich Kleiman, and guests having conversations about sports and various connected topics.
Speaking about its decision in a statement, ESPN said the following
“Thirty Five Ventures are great partners and we are actively working on creative ways to continue bringing The Boardroom to sports fans across our platforms in the year ahead.”
The ESPN Original talk show digs into the world of sports biz and features various athletes, tech moguls and sports execs. Each episode of “The Boardroom” focuses on one major topic or theme in sports.
“It’s really important for us to be able to bring fans inside the business world and give them perspectives they haven’t been able to see before, and I hope viewers will love it,” Durant commented about the show.
Kleinman has in the past tweeted the following about the series:
“The Boardroom is bigger and better then ever. We built something to highlight the incredible stories of young Entrepreneur’s that come from nothing. We tell feel good success stories for young people to relate to and be inspired by. And we want it to be for FREE.”
Guests on The Boardroom have included L.A. Lakers players LeBron James and Kyle Kuzma, Houston Rockets forward P.J. Tucker, L.A. Clippers owner Steve Balmer, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey and Peter Guber, the co-owner of Warriors, Dodgers and LAFC.
For ESPN, the exclusive series was an important bid to persuade more sports fans to pay for ESPN+, the over-the-top complement to its core TV business.
