Ernie Hudson Shares a Promising Script Update for Ghostbusters 4

Actor Ernie Hudson shares a promising script update about the Ghostbusters 4 script, the upcoming sequel to Ghostbusters: Afterlife. 

The 2021 film, Ghostbusters: Afterlife featured the return of original stars Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Hudson, Annie Potts, and Sigourney Weaver. It also introduced new names such as Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, and Mckenna Grace to the franchise.

The film primarily focused on the descendants of the original Ghostbuster, Egon Spengler. The group learns of his past after moving into the farmhouse they inherited from him. 

In a conversation with Comicbook.com, Ernie Hudson spoke about the much-awaited Ghostbusters 4. Hudson confirmed that he has read “a version” of the completed script of the sequel. 

Here’s the entire statement below-

I did read a version. I’m pretty sure they committed to doing another one. I’m very happy with it, but I also know this is early on. Jason has been incredible, and I really just love and appreciate him. I’m so thankful to be able to work with him. So, I’m excited about but… I haven’t and I never assume anything. I am happy, though, to have Ghostbusters in my filmography. And I’m just really delighted when I see little kids, two and three years old, singing the song and being happy about it.

Writer director Jason Reitman had teased Ghostbusters 4 even before the release of Ghostbusters: Afterlife. The sequel was officially announced in April, after the release of Afterlife. Ghostbusters: Afterlife opened to mixed and positive reviews from critics. However, it turned out to be a massive box-office success. 

The film grossed over $204 million against its budget of $75 million, which further convinced the makers to go forward with the sequel. Ghostbusters 4 was initially set for a Summer 2023 release, but the release date was later shifted to December 20, 2023. The story is all set to bring the action back to New York City. 

Apart from its setting and Reitman’s return, not much has been revealed about Ghostbusters 4. Mckenna Grace seemingly confirmed her character Phoebe’s return last October. However, Grace also mentioned not having heard anything about the script’s progress. 

Since the film will bring the setting back to New York City, we can expect the rest of the original cast to also make a comeback in Ghostbusters 4. Moreover, at the end of Ghostbusters: Afterlife, it was revealed that Winston had bought their old firehouse after he became a wealthy entrepreneur. 

Ghostbusters 4 is due for release on December 20, 2023.
