It seems that the main focus of Epic Games right now is to create a safer platform for younger audiences.
Today, Epic Games has announced its acquisition of SuperAwesome, an organization that safeguards digital media ecosystems through safe engagement.
Essentially, it is a purchase done for the safety of the younger user-base in different online services.
For those unaware, SuperAwesome’s “kidtech” is utilized by many companies to enable safe digital engagement for kids. It is built to ensure total digital privacy, and the effectiveness of their methods seems to be the primary reason for Epic Games’ purchase.
Despite being stuck in a lawsuit against Apple and being inquired by the US Government for their safety protocols, it looks like Epic is trying its best to maximize its security systems.
Considering how most of Epic’s user-base consists of users who are still minors, it makes sense for them to do everything they can to ensure a safer experience.
In June 2019, Epic had purchased Houseparty, a social video app for Android and iOS. One of the biggest features of this app, apart from those offered in other apps such as Google Meets, Snapchat, Facetime, or Discord, is the ability to create private rooms that prevent any form of interaction with strangers.
If we put two and two together, it becomes pretty clear that Epic Games was drawn to the wondrous levels of security offered by the app.
With games like Fortnite, and now Rocket League, which has recently gone free-to-play, the acquisition of SuperAwesome only seems to become more logical.
“The internet was never designed for kids so we started SuperAwesome to make it as easy as possible to enable safe, privacy-driven digital experiences for children everywhere. Partnering with Epic Games gives us the opportunity to deliver that promise on a scale which simply wouldn’t have been possible on our own.”

Honestly speaking, it is quite inspiring to see that, right around the dawn of the next-generation of gaming, the industry’s major focus is to create a safer ecosystem of online engagement for everyone, especially for the young ones!
