Elden Ring is just a few weeks from launch, and developer FromSoftware is doing all it can to build hype while preparing for the game to be in perfectly playable condition at launch. We recently learned more about the combat, classes, and world of Elden Ring, and now we know a little more about the game that should be good news to many and a buzzkill for a select few.
On the Steam store, players have spotted which anti-cheat software Elden Ring plans to use buried in the EULA. According to the document, Elden Ring will use Easy Anti-Cheat, one of the most well-known options in the market presently. The same has been used in other big-name games such as Fortnite, Halo: Master Chief Collection, Apex Legends, and many others.
Elden Ring’s focus is on being a single-player experience, but some online elements are incorporated into the game. PvP is a feature present in Elden Ring, and this is where the anti-cheat is going to be extremely useful.
But, there is a good chance that players will be punished for using cheats or other types of trainer software in the single-player area of the game as well that is reported to be over 30 hours long.
Hackers are a common issue in online games, and Dark Souls has been notorious for the kinds of exploits and cheats players would employ. So, the inclusion of Easy AntiCheat should give many players peace of mind knowing the chances of bumping into someone using a malicious exploit is slim. We just need to hope that the anti-cheat proves too difficult for hackers to circumvent.
Anti-cheat announcements are always met with a mixed response. A particular section of gamers feels it would cause unnecessary inconvenience to those who simply want to play the game without bothering too much about the online component.
The hackers are, of course, also quite annoyed. The reaction to Elden Ring using Easy Anti-Cheat, for now, is quite split, but given how heavily anticipated the game is, we doubt it will make much of a difference.
The primary concern about Easy Anti-Cheat is how nicely it will play with mods. Mods have been an important part of the Dark Souls franchise on PC, going so far as to be essential if the first game is to be played on the platform. A good way to strike a balance would be to offer players the choice to launch the game with or without Easy Anti-Cheat every time it is being booted.
Elden Ring is slated for release on February 25th on the PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
