FromSoftware games have a cult following, making every release an occasion for celebration. After the new deep-dive video was released last month for Elden Ring, the hype has been at an all-time high, and fans are always on the lookout for more information about the game.
The latest leak has revealed how much space PlayStation 5 users will need to install the game, and, thankfully, the number isn’t as big as people expected.
To install Elden Ring, you will need just 45GB of hard drive space on the PlayStation 5. This is great to hear in a time when it is not uncommon for game file sizes to go into the triple-digit zone. Unless you have already expanded the storage capacity of your PlayStation 5, every game you install eats away at 667.2GB of usable space.
This information comes from the PlayStation Game Size Twitter account, which keeps track of files directly added to the PSN database. The 45GB reported by them does not include the day one patch. The pre-load for the game will start two days before the launch – on February 23rd.
Elden Ring’s file size is far below that of some upcoming games, such as Horizon Forbidden West, which requires 96GB of space. It will also be released around the same time as Elden Ring, so those planning to pick up both may need to do some serious storage management.
On the Xbox Store, Elden Ring shows up at 50GB, which is not too far off from the PlayStation 5 version. The file size will differ between the Xbox One and Xbox Series X, as is always the case. As of writing this, the PC file size is still unknown, as there is no info on the game’s Steam page.
Elden Ring is FromSoftware’s first attempt at a traditional open-world formula, and so it’s good to see that even a massive adventure like that has been contained in pretty reasonable file size. If everything goes according to plan, the game will launch on February 25th.
Elden Ring has won the most anticipated game of the year award for the second year in a row, so here’s hoping that it can live up to the immense hype it has created.
