Elden Ring on the PC has its fair share of issues, but some are more significant than others. However, when it comes to playing the game, even minor issues can prove to be an annoyance. The game offers controller support on PC, but that’s only for Xbox controllers, not PlayStation.
If players were to plug in a DualShock or DualSense controller, they would face incorrect prompts. Luckily, a modder has come to the rescue.
Named the PS5 PS4 Controller UI for Elden Ring, the mod is an excellent quality of life fix that makes enjoying the game easier for those with Sony controllers.
It updates the texture files to add DualSense and DualShock UI buttons and even comes with an installation video to help get you set up. The mod also updates the controller screen to swap out the Xbox peripheral with a PlayStation one.
Creating by Iosh11, the quality of life texture update should be safe with Elden Ring’s anti-cheat, so it is still fair game when playing online. Mods like this are present even for the Dark souls series, given that they too lack support for PlayStation controllers. It is an unfortunate trend amongst PC ports, even with Steam now directly supporting DualSense.
Despite the threat of the anti-cheat, the Elden Ring modding community is alive and active. No randomizer has been created yet, but given that every other Souls game has gotten one, it probably isn’t too far off. We also have players pitting Radahn against Malenia, enabling RTX before official support, and also adding easy modes and pause functionality.
Some of it is goofy fun, like changing all the horses in the game to trains, while some of the mods are more functionality-oriented, like fixing the invisible enemy bug. It could be possible that FromSoftware will eventually patch in the DualShock and DualSense support, but if any of the other ports are to be considered, people won’t be holding their breath.
It’s good to see the modding community picking up the slack from the devs and adding functionality that goes beyond just tweaking the game. This mod will save people who only have PlayStation controllers from running out and buying an Xbox one to play Elden Ring.
