Eiichiro Oda has been on a break from the manga for quite a few days now, and this has been for a good reason as well; he’s been gearing up for his Q&A. Besides this, he has also admitted that he needs to find out what the One Piece treasure actually is.
Now that the new issue of the Weekly Shonen Jump is out, the answers to the questions that fans were dying to have answered are finally in the open. Here, we’ve covered some of the most relevant questions that Oda has answered.
1 Has Dragon Ever Lived Together With Luffy?
Dragon left Luffy with his own father, Monkey D. Garp when Luffy was just a baby. Luffy grew up with Garp and didn’t know anything about Dragon or even see him in person until he was older and became a pirate.
Oda explained that Dragon did spend some time with Luffy when he was young, but Luffy doesn’t remember it. This was because Dragon, as the leader of the Revolutionary Army, didn’t want enemies to target Luffy. Oda also said that Dragon felt a strong emotion when he saw Luffy in Rogue Town, even though Luffy didn’t know it was him.
This is not too informative as most fans already knew the fact that Luffy didn’t much about Dragon, and so this question didn’t really need an answer.
2 How Does Luffy’s Gear 5 Allow Him To Create Objects At Will?

We’ve noticed Luffy make items out of nowhere before, and it mostly seemed like magic. There has been no explanation for this phenomenon so far, but there’s nothing to worry about because Oda has addressed this, too.
Oda explained that this magical power lets Luffy tap into Nika’s imagination. This shows that the Gear 5 transformation gives Luffy something called “toon force,” which allows him to ignore natural laws for funny effects. After discovering the true power of his Human-Human Fruit, Model: Nika, Luffy can use these cartoon-like powers to change reality however he wants.
3 Did Blackbeard Name His Ship After Rocks D.Xebec
This question arose since fans saw a possible link between Blackbeard and Rocks D. Xebec since Blackbeard named his ship the “Saber of Xebec.” Interestingly, Oda chose not to properly answer this question, leaving fans with the impression that they may be onto something
According to Oda, the naming of the ship may or may not be a coincidence, but more about this will be disclosed in the future.
4 How Strong Is Figarland Garling
Unfortunately, Oda chose to beat around the bush with this question as well. When asked about Garling’s strength, Oda only said that Garling is meant to be very powerful, with a reason behind it. Garling, who was once the top leader of the World Government’s Holy Knights, was recently chosen to join the Five Elders, replacing Saint Jaygarcia Saturn.
This could mean that Oda has planned something out with him, and just doesn’t want to reveal that card just yet.
5 What Happened During the Rocky Port Incident That Made Koby So Famous?
The incident at Rocky Port during the two-year time skip that made Koby famous is still quite a mystery. Oda explained that Trafalgar D. Water Law was responsible for it. Law learned that a Poneglyph was hidden on Hachinosu, so he took over a passenger ship called “Rocky Port” to sneak onto the island. Originally, Law planned to sneak onto a smuggling ship, but the one he hijacked was carrying a king and some nobles.
Once on Hachinosu, Law fought against pirates. Blackbeard and Koby also showed up on the island for their own reasons. Even though they had different goals, Law, Blackbeard, and Koby teamed up to take down the island’s ruler, Ochoku, who used to be part of the Rocks Pirates. In the end, Blackbeard took over as the ruler of Hachinosu, and the World Government made Law a Warlord for capturing the hearts of 100 pirates. Here, Koby protected the people and became famous as a hero.
6 What Is Kuzan’s Job At the Blackbeard Pirates?
Oda explained that Kuzan doesn’t really like Blackbeard, but he agrees with Teach’s idea of living life on his own terms. Instead of following the World Government’s orders and doing bad things, Kuzan joined Blackbeard to be free and live as a pirate.
Even though being part of a pirate crew means doing bad things sometimes, Kuzan values his freedom to make his own choices. Oda also mentioned that Kuzan has already caused some harm while being with the Blackbeard Pirates.
7 Did Shanks Learn Divine Departure From Roger, Or Did He Copy It?
Divine Departure is a strong sword strike combined with a burst of Conqueror’s Haki. Shanks used this move to defeat Eustass Kid with a single hit, but it’s also the signature move of Gol D. Roger.
Roger originally used this technique to defeat the powerful samurai Kozuki Oden. Oda explained that Shanks always admired Roger and was able to copy his move. Oda also pointed out that this was a big achievement for Shanks, showing how talented he is, since none of the other members of the Roger Pirates could do the same.
