The rise of DCEU’s new anti-hero, bringing about a hierarchical change, begs the question — Can Black Adam defeat Superman? No offence, Dwayne Johnson puts it politely, but yes.
Fans are super excited after the release of Black Adam’s epic first look video at DC FanDome 2021. Attaching a few gritty images from the movie, a Twitter user comments how perhaps Superman is the only one who can stop Black Adam.
Johnson says that they both are “unstoppable forces” (…unstoppable force, immovable object, much?) but surmises that magic is Superman’s true weakness, not kryptonite. And boy, Black Adam does have a way with magic.
Besides this, Superman is bound by his morals, so he may be able to “defeat” Black Adam, but not kill him. Johnson hints that on the opposite side of the spectrum, Black Adam would have no problem disposing off Superman for good.
Superman was not available for a comment due to being in the ICU from Bloodsport’s kryptonite bullet. Thanks, Suicide Squad.
But all jokes aside, the debate can only be settled on screen. If Black Adam does as well as its hype claims, it won’t be long till the clash of DC’s two super powerful beings is chalked out.
(Of course, that is after DC gives us any updates about Superman’s fate, as Henry Cavill has not been attached to any projects and Man of Steel 2 is yet unconfirmed).
In the comics, Black Adam started off as a point-blank villain to the Marvels. His evolution slowly saw him as a merciless anti-hero often tied to the Justice Society of America.
Interestingly, Black Adam was initially coupled with Shazam! But the character was removed from the movie because it painted him more like a one-dimensional villain.
Shazam!’s success gave impetus to the rut-struck Black Adam movie, a passion project that Johnson nurtured for years.
As evidenced in the first looks, tonally, Black Adam couldn’t be further apart from Shazam! But it is predicted that the “Man in Black” will cross paths with the Marvel family some day. And perhaps, even Superman.

The film stars Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as Black Adam, and joining him are cast members Noah Centineo, Aldis Hodge, Sarah Shahi, Marwan Kenzari, Quintessa Swindell, Pierce Brosnan, and Viola Davis.
