‘The Bikeriders’ Gets a June 2024 Release Date After Getting Dropped By Disney

‘The Bikeriders’ has now found a savior in Focus Features after being dropped by Disney, with a set summer 2024 distribution date.

Directed by Jeff Nichols, ‘The Bikeriders’ was initially slated for a big-screen release on December 1, 2023, after premiering at the 50th Telluride Film Festival in August 2023.

The SAG-AFTRA crisis was the primary reason Disney shelved ‘The Bikeriders’, leaving the New Regency film without any distributor. 

According to Deadline, Focus Features has taken up the project and set a release date of June 21, 2024 for the film. This has been a lucky break for the film, which was on the verge of facing an exclusive streaming release due to a lack of distributors.

However, this massively delayed release might have a silver lining. Although December is an ideal time to release a film, many blockbuster movies have already saturated the calendar this month. Thus, due to severe competition, a December release might’ve hampered the film’s box-office numbers. 

Although June 2024 does boast some big releases like Inside Out 2 and Ballerina, the lack of competition might help ‘The Bikeriders’ to shine at the box office.

The Bikeriders is the perfect summer film featuring stunning landscapes and the authentic lifestyle of a biker gang. The film follows the footsteps of Top Gun: Maverick and tries to follow the same nostalgia-inducing vibe to stimulate the audience.
