Studio Colorido’s upcoming Drifting Home anime film features the adventure of every kid’s dreams and nightmares. Otakus are ready for yet another masterpiece by the studio that gave us A Whisker Away.
Films like these cannot be complete without a soundtrack that doesn’t give you the chills. The staff knew this and brought a gem for our playlists.
Netflix’s English-subtitled trailer for Drifting Home previews the movie’s theme song ‘Kieteshimai Sō Desu’ (It Seems I’m Fading Away) by Zutto Mayonaka de Iinoni. (ZUTOMAYO).
The film will come out on Netflix and in Japanese theaters on September 16, 2022.
ZUTOMAYO has done a fantastic job with the beats and music. It is the kind of song that will make you dance to it even though it has some really dark and depressing lyrics.
It only makes sense because this film will show you how silly adolescent dreams like this can soon turn into a nightmare.
But why a nightmare? Because that’s just how Studio Colorido rolls. They wrap up a story around the themes of broken friendship and childhood fantasies, only to twist it in a way that wrecks us emotionally.
Drifting Home’s story follows childhood friends Kosuke and Natsume, whose friendship is walking on eggshells. The once inseparable duo now barely talks to each other until one day, Kosuke, Natsume, and their friends decide to explore their old housing complex that will be demolished.
Once inside the building, the group encounters a strange phenomenon and wakes up in the building surrounded by water. Realizing that they’re somehow stuck in the middle of an ocean, the kids get into survival mode and try to find a way back home.
A fun summer adventure turning into a traumatic experience is just what we needed this year.
At least we won’t have to worry about spoilers since it’s a Netflix-exclusive film, and the whole world will get to experience it together.
