Netflix has become one of the few OTT platforms that produce original animes. The online streaming service has been behind popular titles like Devilman Crybaby, B: The Beginning, and SWORDGAI The Animation.
Along with these original anime, Netflix also holds exclusive distribution rights for certain animes outside of Japan. It has become a hub for otakus with a variety of shows streaming on the platform.
NX on Netflix’s official Twitter account announced today that the anime adaptation of Capcom’s RPG game Dragon’s Dogma would premiere on Netflix from September 17.
The announcement of the release date for the series was accompanied by a new poster for the anime featuring the dragon stealing a man’s heart.
Following the announcement of the release date, the official Twitter page for Dragon’s Dogma also tweeted a few snippets from the show, teasing fans with character designs from the anime.
It isn’t uncommon for video games to be adapted into anime. Their immersive storylines, well-designed characters and popularity serve as attractive elements for production houses to choose them as sources.
Dragon’s Dogma is a fairly popular RPG video game by Capcom and has also inspired mangas before this anime adaptation.
It received a 14 chapter manga titled Dragon’s Dogma Progress by Hirotoshi Hirano and Capcom in 2013 and a manga titled Dragon’s Dogma Revives spanning over 10 chapters by Yumiya Tashiro in 2017.
Netflix had announced the anime adaptation for Dragon’s Dogma back in 2019 and described the series as:
“a man’s journey seeking revenge on a dragon who stole his heart. ON his way, the man is brought back to life as an ‘Arisen’. An action-adventure about a man challenged by demons who represent the seven deadly sins of humans.”
It isn’t a coincidence that the new poster for the series also features all these elements, the dragon who stole a man’s heart, the man, and his heart being stolen.
Netflix is undoubtedly building hype around the series by dropping the release date along with promotional videos.

About Dragon’s Dogma
Dragon’s Dogma is a hack and slash, action RPG game launched by Capcom in 2012 for PS3 and XBOX 360. The game later received an enhanced edition called Dark Arisen for other consoles.
The game follows the protagonist who’s heart gets stolen when a dragon attacks his village Cassardis. After getting his heart stolen, the protagonist stays alive and becomes an existence known as the ” Arisen”.
The Arisen, followed by human-like beings called Pawns, must defeat the dragon and stop the upcoming apocalypse.
