Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai episode 61, titled “Avan, the Hero,” is the latest installment of the anime.

This episode showed us the backstory of the legendary hero, Avan. He was in the elite Order to protect Flora and later developed the Avan Strash after rigorous training.

Flora had appointed Leona to become a part of Avan’s Disciples, but Leona was skeptical since she never received training from Avan himself.

To assure her that she was capable of becoming a Disciple of Avan without his teachings, Flora recalled this story. Equipped with special powers, the team sets out to rescue Hyunckel and Crocodine.

How will Dai and his friends rescue Hyunckel and Crocodine from the dungeons of Dark Lord Vearn? We’ll find out in the next episode.

Episode 62 Speculation

The next episode will continue after Flora finishes her story about Avan. To bind with the legendary spell, Kaglimmer, Leona, and the others brace the Cave of Trials, where monsters roam freely.

Meanwhile, Dai enlists the aid of Nova to train with his sword. The remaining members and Popp learn about a mysterious power hidden in the Insignias of Avan.

We could also learn more about Hyunckel’s plan to save himself from death. Mystvearn asked him to accept the dark aura and become his subordinate.

Even though it might be an act, Hyunckel’s decision to accept this can lead to misunderstandings between him and Dai.

Episode 61 Recap

Episode 61 begins with Queen Flora telling Princess Leona and the others the story of Avan, the hero from the days of his youth as a member of the Order of Carl.

The story starts with Hadlar and his monster legion terrorizing the humans. When everyone else was running away, one kingdom stood resolute in the face of the Dark Army’s invasion.

Under their new lead knight, Roka, the elite Order of Carl faces the Dark Army as an unparalleled force.

In the place of its bedridden king, Princess Flora led the Carl Kingdom. Flora was a goddess of hope to the world with her beauty and courage. While the princess and the knights ensure that the public doesn’t panic, Avan spends his time inside a small shack teaching the kitchen chefs how to better their recipes.

Roka finds him and reprimands him for not being present at the princess’ speech. The two then talk about the upcoming war, and Roka tells Avan to sharpen his fighting skills.

He wonders how Avan was selected to be a part of the Order when his physical strength wasn’t too impressive. Avan jokes and says that his selection might have something to do with his intelligence.

Later that day, the princess finds a bloody message scribbled across her mirror. It’s from the Dark Lord who intends to take her away and sacrifice her to gain more power. Roka strengthens the security around the princess, and Avan excuses himself out to the forest.

When the Dark Lord finally attacks them, the elite Order is rendered useless since they’re no match for his power. Flora confronts the Dark Lord and tells him that she knows his true intentions behind kidnapping her.

She says that sacrifice is just a cover-up story, and he wants to demoralize her subjects by kidnapping her.

The Dark Lord confirms this and lets his monsters loose on the soldier. Just then, Avan appears and sprinkles Coagulant, a compound that makes monsters go crazy and attack their comrades.

The princess thinks back to when Avan rescued her three years ago. It is revealed that Avan is a competent fighter but never showed off his power. Now that Flora was in danger, it was the right time to reveal his strength. He managed to weaken the Dark Lord but couldn’t kill him as the latter escaped.

It was then that Avan and Roka left to end the Dark Lord’s reign. After intense training, the power of the blinding light was completed to become the Avan Strash.

About Dragon Quest: Dai no Daiboken (2020)

Dragon Quest is an anime and manga series based on the rpg video game of the same name.

The story features Dai, a boy living in the Dermline Islands and his quest of becoming a hero and realizing his powers and helping Princess Leona along the way.

The games were adapted into two major television series. Dragon Quest: The Adventures of Dai is the remake of the 1991 series which had 46 episodes in total.
