Even after Nintendo pulled its buggy 12.0.3 update, gamers on the Switch are dealing with download issues. The origin of the issue seems to be the re-issue of the 12.0.3 update, even though the “new” update is just as run-of-the-mill as its predecessor.
The issue shows up on the handheld console as error code 2123-1502, for which there are steps on Nintendo’s customer support forum. But players affected by the problem say that following these steps does not fix the bug in most cases.
Nintendo Switch began the rollout of the 12.0.3 update on June 7. While the firmware update was pulled due to a variety of apparent issues (including downloading issues), it was relisted for download later and remains available at the moment.
As the Nintendo eShop is the primary method to purchase games for the Switch besides buying physical cartridges, it is natural for gamers to be frustrated with the issue. This giant Reddit thread encapsulates all the issues they’re having, but there are also few possible fixes available.
One fix that players have had some success with involves changing the Switch’s DNS setting to point to Google’s 8.8.8.8/8.8.4.4.
DNS addresses make downloads work properly. The thread also states that customer support at Nintendo US is aware of the problem and will walk you through resetting your system’s cache over the phone. But apparently, this does not fix the issue for everyone.
Nintendo relisting the update for download is looking like a premature move as the download issues on the Switch still haven’t been fixed. Nintendo’s reason for pausing the rollout in the first place was that MicroSDXC cards were causing connection issues which led to failures in downloading content from the eShop.
However, since most players are still complaining about this issue, it’s evident that there has been some oversight on Nintendo’s part to provide a stable fix.
This is bound to affect revenue from the eShop as players will refrain from making online purchases until the issue is fully resolved. If this doesn’t push Nintendo to come out with a working fix quickly, nothing will, so hopefully, a functioning solution will arrive soon.
