Disney just dropped the trailer for its Disney+ series, Doogie Kamealoha M.D, and it sees Peyton Elizabeth Lee save a man’s life at the beach.
Set in modern-day Hawai‘i, the series is a coming-of-age dramedy following Lahela ‘Doogie’ Kamealoha (Lee), a 16-year-old prodigy being a genius and saving lives as a doctor while dealing with life as a teenager.
The synopsis of Doogie Kamealoha, M.D. reads,
“Guiding Lahela is her career-driven mother Dr. Clara Hannon, who’s also her supervisor at the hospital, her doting father Benny, who helps keep her connected to what matters most, her free-spirited older brother Kai, her gregarious younger brother Brian Patrick, her best friend Steph, her surfer crush Walter and her fellow hospital colleagues, Dr. Lee, Charles, and Noelani.”

The trailer also features other cast members, including Kathleen Rose Perkins, Jason Scott Lee, Matthew Sato, Manapuan Makia, and Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman.
The series is a reboot of the 80s TV series Doogie Howser, M.D., starring a young Neil Patrick Harris long before his days of playing Barney Stinson on How I Met Your Mother.
Fans of the original series were hoping to see NPH, but according to series creator Kourtney Kang, this wasn’t possible due to pandemic-related issues. Kang told reporters during the Television Critics Association’s press tour,
“We need to connect Peyton and Neil! And yes, we have been in touch with Neil. I worked with him for nine years on ‘How I Met Your Mother.’ He is so wonderful. And as soon as this all started coming together, we reached out, and he has been so supportive of this project and so lovely. And we were trying to get him to come out in Season 1 and do something with us and with the pandemic, and Neil has a family in New York, and so many things going on, bandwidth-wise, it didn’t work out.”

Kang, however, reassured fans that NPH could make an appearance in Season 2 if it were to happen. The original show ran for four seasons on ABC, from 1989-1993, created by Steven Bochco and David E. Kelley.
Bochco died in 2018. His widow, Dayna Bochco, and son, Jesse Bochco, will executive produce the reboot alongside Kang, Jake Kasdan, and Melvin Mar.
Doogie Kamealoha, M.D. will consist of 10 episodes and premieres on Disney+ from September 8.
