Don’t Toy With Me, Nagatoro-san or Ijiranaide, Nagatoro-san works on the same principle, if not more sadistic.

This web manga was written and illustrated by Nanashi or 774 in 2011. Now, a new anime is on the way for us.

The website revealed that Sumire Uesaka would voice the titular heroine, Nagatoro.

Her reaction to the role was,

“When I saw Nagatoro for the first time, I was shocked by her devilishness. But I was shocked again by her sudden cuteness. I’ll do my best to express her various charming aspects!”

We will keep this article updated with the news of its release date and other information.

But will there be more delays in the broadcast?

2. Cause of Delay

The anime adaptation of Ijiranaide, Nagatoro-san is already given the green light. However, the project might not be released by 2020, or even early 2021.

Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, the production schedules of many shows were affected.

Although studios have resumed work with strict rules in place, there is a high possibility of a temporary halt.

Many countries have reportedly been hit by the second wave, so keeping that in mind, the anime could be postponed until late 2021, if not later. Let’s analyze this in detail.

3. Theory Section

The popular flirty rom-com about Nagatoro and her Senpai is well-liked by the audience. But will it rise high or fall into controversies?

Let’s get into this article to see what influences the making of ‘Don’t Toy With Me, Nagatoro-san.’

I. Popularity of the Franchise

Written by Nanashi, the original manga made its debut back in 2011 when its early version was posted on Pixiv. Kodansha has been publishing the manga series since 2017 and has about eight volumes to date.

The manga has been licensed by Vertical in North America, and it started its English serialization in 2019. There are currently three volumes released by Vertical, with the fourth one on its way this August 2020.

The manga is very cute and has a slight sadistic edge to it. But it has already attracted a lot of attention from fans ever since its debut.

How is the fandom taking the news of the anime adaptation?

II. Fan Reactions

Fans of this manga like it for the chemistry between Nagatoro and her Senpai.

But some fans also feel that the meaning behind the bullying goes a bit deeper…

Nagatoro bullies Senpai and his art, which Nagatoro describes as Senpai’s internal explicit feelings and harshly critiques them.

This lays course to a one-sided communication between them. The bullying provides the foundation for their chemistry.

But it also pushes Senpai to improve as an artist by confronting the reality that Nagatoro keeps pointing out.

Although the manga has loyal fans, many compare the series to fall into a controversy like Uzaki-chan.

Some manga readers think that the teasing goes over a limit and becomes too harsh for some sane readers.

Others contradict by stating that the story becomes fluffier and softer in the later chapters, as the characters realize their feelings.

So, then what is the story about?

4. Plot

High schooler Hayase Nagatoro loves to spend her free time doing one thing, and which is to bully her Senpai!

After Nagatoro and her friends stumble upon the aspiring artist’s drawings, they find enjoyment in mercilessly bullying the timid Senpai.

Nagatoro resolves to continue her cruel game and visits him daily so to force Senpai into doing whatever interests her at the time.

Senpai is constantly roped into her antics as she entertains herself at his expense. As time goes on, Senpai realizes that he doesn’t dislike Nagatoro’s presence.

The two of them develop an uneasy friendship as one patiently puts up with the other’s antics. The story gets more interesting from that point.

Let’s see a quick teaser of the upcoming show.

5. Visuals & Trailers

A visual featuring Nagatoro was released during the production announcement.

The anime’s teasers or PVs haven’t been released yet. We will update this article as soon as they are.

Let’s look into the animation production of the show.

6. Music & Animation

I. Animation Quality

Telecom Animation Film is rather well known for the recent Tower of God and Orange anime.

The studio has adapted the art styles of the anime from their respective source material.

The character movements and animation sometimes feel sluggish and slow, but the visuals and color palette make up for it.

II. Theme Songs

The music composer of this anime is Gin. Gin has worked on Aho-Girl, Pop Team Epic, Gal & Dino, and more.

Though we don’t know the theme songs yet, we can expect a funny, stimulating, and interesting OST for this rom-com anime!

Let’s see how the fans are reacting to the news of the anime adaptations.

7. Fan Expectations

With Telecom Animation Film animating Ijiranaide, Nagatoro-san, fans are waiting patiently for the series to come alive on screen like the Tower of God.

Since the manga’s debut in 2017, fans have been waiting eagerly for the characters to come to life when the anime begins airing.

The anime has a similar premise, like Teasing Master Takagi-san with a tamer setting and younger characters.

Fans don’t care about the ‘adult’ settings and just want their favorite girl to seduce Senpai in her sadistic ways.

Other fans are hesitant to watch the anime, as the manga’s art style would hard to animate, but if the studio pulls it off, it would be dope!

Anime openings sometimes have characters dancing to the theme songs.

Thus, some anime-only fans want to see multiple versions of the same opening theme, with Nagatoro trying to get a reluctant Senpai to join in.

9. About Don’t Toy With Me, Nagatoro-san

The story revolves around Senpai, a timid and introverted high school boy.

His life changes completely, taking a 360 degree turn when he meets Hayase Nagatoro.

Nagatoro observes that Senpai is prone to bullying by other girls and starts behaving the same to him.

Slightly aroused by and somewhat fearful of Nagatoro, Senpai is constantly roped into her antics as she entertains herself at his expense.
