The Poppy Field quest in STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl begins in the Lesser Zone, specifically in the settlement of Zalissya. Upon arrival, enter the local inn, where you’ll find a man named Mityay sitting alone in the corner.

Engage in conversation with him, and he’ll mention a cherished family heirloom, the Religious Icon, which is hidden in a Root Cellar beneath the Poppy Fields. The Poppy Fields are situated northwest of Zalissya, at the edge of the Lesser Zone region.

Mityay will warn you that the area is treacherous, citing the strange phenomenon where people become overwhelmed with fatigue, ultimately leading to their demise. Your objective is to play hero and venture into the Poppy Fields, locate the Root Cellar, and retrieve the Religious Icon to return to Mityay.

Before heading out, make sure to stock up on Energy Drinks, as they will be crucial in replenishing your Stamina/Energy. The Poppy Fields are notorious for draining your energy rapidly, leading to unconsciousness if you linger too long.

Consuming an Energy Drink can temporarily stave off these effects. You can purchase Energy Drinks from vendors in Zalissya or scavenge for them in abandoned houses within the Poppy Fields.

  • To reach the Poppy Field, head west from Zalissya, following the blue icon on your compass. Make sure to track the mission in your Journal to stay on course. After a short journey, you’ll arrive at a vast, vibrant field of bright red poppies.
  • As you enter the field, you’ll immediately notice strange effects: Skif’s vision will blur, and disembodied voices will whisper in your ear. You may even experience brief teleportations to bizarre locations, such as rooftops.
  • To counteract the creeping drowsiness, drink a Non-Stop Energy Drink. However, this remedy is only temporary, and you’ll need to find shelter soon. Linger too long in the open, and your character will succumb to exhaustion, forcing you to reload your last save.

ii. Meeting with Pomor

  • When you arrive at the Poppy Field, head towards the house on your right. It’s essential to take shelter here before exploring the fields, as wandering aimlessly can be fatal.
  • Inside the house, you’ll meet Pomor, who has information about the Root Cellar you’re searching for. He’ll offer to reveal the location in exchange for 2,000 Credits or a favor.
  • if you choose to accept his quest, he will request you to search four bodies around the poppy field for guns and ammo. The locations will be marked on your map as soon as you accept his quest. When you return to him after collecting whatever you find on the bodies, he’ll give you the co-ordinates for the Root Cellar.
  • However, you can just decline his offer and find the location below. After stating your decision, Pomor will wish you luck, and you’ll be on your way to navigate the Poppy Fields.

iii. Locating the Heirloom

  • To locate the Religious Icon, start by exiting Pomor’s house and sprinting straight ahead, consuming Energy Drinks as needed.
  • Enter the house directly across from Pomor’s, loot the Energy Drinks inside, and proceed to the opposite end of the house.
  • You’ll see another house across from you, but don’t enter it. Instead, drink another Energy Drink and run to the right of the house.
  • Continue running between the two houses, and you’ll eventually find the entrance to the Root Cellar in the ground, surrounded by poppies.
  • It’s challenging to spot, but if you stay aligned between the houses, you should run directly into the entrance.
  • Drop down into the Root Cellar, navigate inside, and you’ll find the Religious Icon leaning against a shelf. Pick it up to complete this section of the mission.

Now that you’ve obtained the Religious Icon, you must decide who to give it to. Your choice will yield different rewards:

  • Option 1: Give the Icon to Mityay
Return to Zalissya and enter the bar, where you’ll find Mityay waiting for you. Hand over the Religious Icon to complete The Poppy Field side quest, and you’ll receive a reward of 1,000 Credits.
  • Option 2: Give the Icon to Pomor
Pomor will reward you with the Unknown Stalker’s AR416 rifle. Note that the game may notify you that you can sell the Icon to Pomor, but this appears to be a bug and can be ignored. The quest will still be completed automatically.

The Poppy Field side quest is just one of many challenges awaiting you in STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl. With this guide, you’ve overcome a significant hurdle, but the Exclusion Zone is full of mysteries and dangers.
