Recently, One Piece fans have been furious over Toei Animation, and the reason is quite obvious. If you have guessed it, then yes, you are right. The studio again messed up Sanji’s scene, and it’s not the first time they have done it.
Episode 1105 of One Piece was released on May 19, 2024, and it started the clash between Sanji fans and the animation studio. Now, if you’re wondering what happened, read on.
How Did Toei Animation Mess Up Sanji’s Scene in Ep 1105 of One Piece?
Episode 1105 was quite interesting. Stussy’s betrayal of the CP0 members and Zoro vs. S-Hawk. Seraphim, again becoming the allies of Dr. Vegapunk’s satellites and the Straw Hat Pirates, were all a part of it. However, as we thought the episode was perfect, that’s when the disappointment came.
In the scene where Sanji saves Vegapunk’s satellite No. 3, Edison is not depicted perfectly, and a few details are missing. When Edison tries to give a command to the Seraphims, S-Shark fires a beam toward Edison and Lilith. While Franky saves Lilith, Sanji saves Edison as they arrive just in time.
In the One Piece manga, Sanji saves Edison before the S-Shark’s attack hits and then lands next to Zoro with incredible agility. However, in the anime, the scene is depicted differently. Sanji saved Edison after the attack had already landed, demonstrating him as slow.
Fans noted that the studio made a creative yet controversial decision to add an anime-only scene where S-Shark hurls Sanji against a wall. This contrasts with the manga, where Sanji delivers a powerful kick to the Seraphim clone. Some also expressed their opinion that the anime downplays the impact of Sanji’s kick on S-Shark, making it appear that S-Shark isn’t significantly injured by the attack.
Additionally, Zoro’s movements were faster than Sanji’s during his fight against S-Hawk in the anime. This has led some fans to believe that Toei Animation may have intentionally portrayed Sanji less favorably.
Toei’s Personal Vendetta Against Sanji Ruins Previous Episodes of One Piece
This is not the first time fans have been furious at Toei Animation for its vendetta against Sanji. When the episode 1095 preview showed Sanji being hit like a rocket by the S-Sharks, fans raged. Every Sanji fan was like, “Sanji can’t get hit.”
According to the fans, Episode 1061 also had similar issues. In the battle against Queen, Sanji was visible as he always has been, making loud, teleporting sound effects everywhere, whereas, in the manga, he was invisible. This was important because it showed his outstanding speed.
After getting hit by all of Sanji’s Ifrit combo attacks, Queen gets up fine, with no damage, and starts laughing and talking. Sanji’s attacks were shown to be a lot weaker, especially his Boeuf Burst.
Meanwhile, every Zoro scene is highlighted to its perfection. Well, from what we think, Toei and Sanji’s rivalry is just like Zoro and Sanji’s, and it won’t stop anytime soon.
One Piece Animator Responds to The Sanji Fans
Recently, Henry Thurlow, an animator for One Piece, was pulled into a discussion to clarify the circumstances surrounding Sanji and why Toei Animation seemed to be mishandling every scene involving Sanji.
Thurlow provided an insightful response for fans of One Piece and Sanji. He explained that fan communities often amplify any issue, turning it into a major concern. He also suggested that they should relax and enjoy the show as it is.
