Not many characters meet a tragic end in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations; however, it has its fair share of deaths.
After finishing Naruto Shippuden, I was hesitant to pick up Boruto, mainly because of the negative feedback about it floating around on the internet.
It was heavily compared to Naruto (understandably) and was considered too childish. One frequent comparison made between them was the scene in Naruto where Sasuke broke his arm, to the one in Boruto where the children were merrily drawing something.
The main reason for this extreme contrast in both scenes is that thanks to the efforts of Naruto, Sasuke, and the Shinobi Alliance, the world has entered a period of peace and prosperity where war is almost unheard of.
However, with the introduction of villains originating from the Otsutsuki clan, the peace has been shattered, resulting in quite a few characters’ death.
List of Characters That Die in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations
- Shin Uchiha
- Kinshiki Otsutsuki
- Momoshiki Otsutsuki
- Urashiki Otsutsuki
- Jigen
I. Shin Uchiha’s Death
Shin Uchiha died at the hands of his own clones while retreating after a brutal fight against Sasuke and Sakura.
Shin Uchiha was one of Orochimaru’s many test subjects on whom experiments uncovering the secrets of Kekkei Genkai were conducted. As someone who possessed multiple Sharingan’s, Shin was obsessed with the Uchiha clan, especially Itachi Uchiha.
In order to eliminate the disgrace of Uchiha, aka Sasuke, he left Orochimaru along with his clones and chose to abduct Sarada. Fortunately, Naruto was there to protect her; in the meantime, Sasuke and Sakura arrived.
After the pair defeated Shin, he planned to escape by using his clones as a distraction; however, he was instead stabbed by them, which resulted in the wannabe-Uchiha’s death.
II. Kinshiki Otsutsuki’s Death
Kinshiki Otsutsuki died in Boruto after being turned into a chakra pill by his fellow clanmate and foster son, Momoshiki Otsutsuki.
Kinshiki was a member of the Otsutsuki clan, claimed to be even stronger than Kaguya. After confronting Sasuke and tracing the remnants of Kaguya’s chakra, he made his way to Earth alongside his foster son, Momoshiki.
They appeared in Boruto during the Chunin Exams and were confronted by Naruto and Sasuke. While Momoshiki and Kinshiki were almost equally matched against the latter’s combined power, a moment of weakness allowed them to capture Naruto.
When the other Kage, Sasuke, and Boruto arrived to rescue him, the Otsutsuki’s strength fell short. In order to succeed at their task, Momoshiki turned Kinshiki into a chakra pill and devoured him to increase his strength.
III. Momoshiki Otsutsuki’s Death
Momoshiki Otsutsuki died after Boruto and Naruto attacked him with their combined father-son Rasengan. However, he marked Boruto with his Karma, thus having a chance to revive later in the series.
Along with Kirishiki, Momoshiki was an Otsutsuki clan member who came to Earth to check Kaguya’s status, as well as absorb the chakra.
After being confronted by Naruto, Sasuke, and the other Kage, Momoshiki was continuously pushed back and almost defeated.
In order to win once and for all, he turned Kinshiki Otsutsuki into chakra pills and devoured him, thus increasing his power massively.
With this strength, he almost killed everyone; however, Boruto distracted him with his vanishing Rasengan and freed Naruto. The father-son pair then created a gigantic Rasengan and finally destroyed Momoshiki, ending an Otsutsuki threat once again.
However, before dying, Momoshiki left a karma mark on Boruto, which ensured his possible revival once all the data is extracted.
III. Urashiki Otsutsuki’s Death
Urashiki Otsutsuki died during the Time Slip arc in Boruto after being attacked by Naruto, Boruto, Sasuke, and Jiraiya. Unlike Momoshiki, he did not mark anyone with Karma, thus eliminating any chances of his future revival.
Urashiki accompanied Momoshiki and Kinshiki to Earth on their mission to gather the chakra of the God Tree.
After the foster father-son pair were killed, Urashiki became fixated on Naruto and desired to steal his chakra. In order to do so, he traveled to the past, where he was confronted with Naruto, Boruto, Jiraiya, and Sasuke.
While he was overpowered at first, Urashiki ripped out his eyes and consumed them, turning into a ferocious monster.
While he succeeded in making Naruto turn into his Nine-Tailed form for a while, Urashiki Otsutsuki was ultimately destroyed by them.
IV. Jigen’s Death
Jigen died in Boruto after being attacked by the eternally burning flame of Jiraiya’s clone, Kenshin Koji. Since he had not completely recovered after his fight against Naruto and Sasuke, Jigen could not shrink Koji’s fire and burned to death.
Jigen was the leader of Kara and was under the control of Isshiki Otsutsuki. While he died after fighting Koji, he still possessed the Karma mark, resulting in Isshiki reviving into his body. While Jigen can be considered dead, his body still exists.
