If the first movie in the After series left us hanging in the air about Tessa and Hardin’s future, the second one has us hanging off a cliff! There is a legitimate concern that the dramatic cliffhanger in After We Collided is a significant death – probably Tessa’s.
However, if you were among those who were concerned that Tessa would suffer a nasty fate in After We Collided, rest assured. The character will be present in the future additions of the movie franchise. Tessa also does not die in the book series.
Just as the movie title suggests, After We Collided has an actual collision at its center. The physical collision that alters both Hardin and Tessa’s lives is an accident that Tessa gets into. The viewers were left wondering if this plot could take a turn for the worst.

1. Does Tessa Die in After We Collided?
No, Tess does not die at the end of After We Collided. She survives the accident and meets her father, who is now a homeless man. But the confirmation comes when Josephine Langford, the actor playing Tessa, confirmed that she would be returning for at least two more films.
Based on the second of 2014 After series by author Anna Todd, After We Collided begins by dealing with the fallout of Tessa and Hardin’s separation at the end of the film.
Towards the end of the film, Tessa is out to look for Hardin when she gets into an accident. The next thing, we see that Hardin has begun drinking again because he blames himself.
Though the car collision is severe, Tessa manages to return home safe and sound. She has a short stay in the hospital. But just as she returns, Tessa learns that Hardin has gone back to England to stay with his mother. With his phone broken, Hardin has no way of getting in touch with Tessa.
But that is not the cliffhanger yet. Soon after, Tessa and Hardin get back together, Hardin gives up alcohol, and they are out on the road for a walk. Then Tessa meets with a homeless man who happens to be her dad.
If this was not confirmation enough, Josephine Langford, who plays Tessa too, confirmed that there would be at least two more films in the series and reprising their characters. “I can’t wait to dive back in,” Josephine said on Twitter when she officially announced her continuation in the film franchise. There are five novels in the After canon.
2. After We, Collided – Ending Explained
‘After We Collided’ picks up where ‘After’ leaves off, both in the novels and in the series. Hardin is revealed to have been dating Tessa only as a bet. This destroys Tessa, who now wants nothing to do with Hardin. Meanwhile, Hardin can think of nothing but winning her back.
Tessa and Hardin have just the wrong kind of back and forth throughout the film. Somehow they just can’t seem to get it right. In a letter, Hardin acknowledges that their relationship is like an addiction – pain and pleasure go hand in hand.
The movie ends on a critical note when Tessa realizes that the homeless man who approaches her is none other than her father. But who is he, and why has he appeared out of the blue?
To have a better idea of the plot coming up, we could look at the novels. Apart from establishing his similarity to Hardin, the movie doesn’t delve deep into Tessa’s father. Since Anna Todd also co-wrote the screenplay for ‘After We Collided,’ her literature is the best source for more information about the film’s weird end.
The man in question is named Richard Young, and in the novels, it is explained that he has an ongoing battle with substance abuse.
Carol and Richard’s relationship falls apart due to his drug habits. This is also what results in Richard’s homelessness as he loses his job and has no way of supporting himself.
So, when Tessa and Hardin run into him on the streets, they take him back to their place. The couple then notes how the relationship of Tessa and Hardin is reminiscent of their volatile liaison. Eventually, Tessa’s parents reveal that they had never been married.
So maybe Tessa’s death is not as much of a cliffhanger as the end of her relationship with Hardin. The parallels drawn with her parents’ relationship could threaten their relationship enough to draw them apart.
3. About After We Collided
After a tumultuous start to their relationship, Tessa and Hardin were on their way to making things work. Tessa knew Hardin could be cruel, but a bombshell is dropped when she learns about the origins of their relationship—and Hardin’s mysterious past. Tessa is beside herself.
Though After debuted in April of 2019 to negative reviews from critics, the steamy love scenes and the chemistry between Tessa Young (Josephine Langford) and Hardin Scott (Hero Fiennes Tiffin) made it a commercial success with a robust and loyal fanbase.
Based on the After book series by Anna Todd, which originated on the fanfiction site Wattpad, After We Collided is centered on the second novel of the series. The author created the book’s main plot from One Direction fanfiction, and it got hundreds of millions of views on the site.
