Ori and the Will of the Wisps is a platform-adventure Metroidvania developed by Moon Studios and released by Xbox Game Studios. In this sequel to Ori and the Blind Forest, players embark on a journey in a massive world where friends and foes come alive on the backdrop of aesthetically pleasing and handmade artwork. You venture beyond the forest of Nibel and unravel the truth about Ori’s destiny.
Understandably, players seem to can’t have enough of this critically acclaimed game and are left wanting more, raising questions about the game’s replayability. The game contains several difficulty modes, Easy, Normal, and Hard, to make the game more replayable.
However, you won’t be able to retain your progress, skills, and collected items while replaying Ori and the Will of the Wisps from the beginning in another difficulty mode. But it’d be a different story altogether with New Game Plus.
Unfortunately, Ori and the Will of the Wisps doesn’t have New Game Plus for any gaming platform, including PS4 and PS5. Hence, there’s no way for players to replay the game from the beginning with most of their skills, collected items, and progress. Also, since NG+ makes the game more challenging, its absence from Ori indicates the maximum playable difficulty is ‘Hard.’
Here’s more about the post-game content in Ori and the Will of the Wisps and what it means to start a new game in it.
Does Ori and the Will of the Wisps have post-game content?
Technically, there is very little to no post-game in Ori and the Will of the Wisps. After beating the main story, credits roll, and the game takes you to the main menu, where you can load the saved game file from before the final boss fight to complete side quests instead of initiating the boss fight again.
Once you reach the final section of the game, Willow’s End, your objectives will consist of Finding Lupo, Destroying the Eight Corrupted Hearts, and Defeating Shriek. Upon finishing the first two objectives, the game will introduce you to a three-parted final boss fight against Shriek.
After players defeat Shriek, the final cutscene will begin, and the credits will roll. Subsequently, the game will take them to the main menu. Nevertheless, all their progress will be saved on the slot they used.
Hence, to go to the post-game content in Ori and the Will of the Wisps, you must click on “Start Game,” select the saved game slot you finished the game on, and confirm your selection. You will be placed back on the Willow End shrine, from where you can free-roam and complete side missions.
Can you still play Ori and the Will of the Wisps after you complete the game?
After completing the game, you can still play Ori and the Will of the Wisps. Once players finish the main story, the credits roll, and the game takes them back to the main menu. You can continue playing the game by loading the most recent saved game file.
However, instead of going to fight Shriek again, you can take part in side content and explore the entire map. The various things to do in Ori and the Will of the Wisps after beating the main campaign are given in the next section.
What to do in Ori and the Will of the Wisps after you complete it?
Players can still do a bunch of things after completing Ori and the Will of the Wisps. This is because, unlike Ori and the Blind Forest, this installment places significant importance on exploration and backtracking. Also, the game contains an optional area, Midnight Burrows, for you to explore after beating its campaign.
Apart from the above-mentioned activity, you can do the following after completing Ori and the Will of the Wisps.
- Achievement Hunting
- Complete Side Quests
- Finish Combat Shrines and Race Shrines
- Find All Collectibles
There are a total of 37 achievements spread across the three difficulty modes in the game. In addition, there are about 12 side quests for players to complete and 36 definite collectibles, comprising 31 Spirit Shards and 5 Spirit Shard Upgrade Slots.
The various side quests you can participate in after completing Ori and the Will of the Wisps are as follows.
- A Little Braver.

- Family Reunion.

- Regrowing the Glades.
What happens when you start a new game in Ori and the Will of the Wisps?
When you start a new game in Ori and the Will of the Wisps, a fresh run of the game will be initiated from the beginning. But, unlike in games with New Game Plus, the progress, collected items, and skills from your previous run won’t get transferred to this playthrough.
Simply put, you’ll have to play the game from scratch, meaning the first chapter, with no collectibles, skills, or achievements.
Fortunately, players don’t need to overwrite and lose their previous progress, as Ori and the Will and the Wisps has almost 10-15 empty save game slots. So, you can finish the game, save it on one slot, and start a new game on another, hence securing the option of returning to the completed campaign when needed.
Importantly, you can manually save your game’s progress by heading to a Spirit Well and pressing X. It’s noteworthy that Ori and the Will of the Wisps also possesses an autosave feature, saving you from the trouble of saving your progress manually.
