Nellie Tu Odelschwanck (or Nel for short) is one of the hottest characters in the Bleach anime! So, it’s no wonder why she’s the Bleach anime gal who gets cosplayed the most among con-goers (anime convention attendees).
During Part 2 of the Hueco Mundo Arc, Nel shined the brightest when she fought Nnoitra toe to toe! But the main questions here are, “Does Nel die in Bleach? If so, what happened to her after the defeat of Aizen?”
Put yourself into rewatch mode to re-experience the heated and eventful moments contained within Episodes 194, 195, 199, 202, and 203!
Does Nel Die in Bleach?
Nel doesn’t die in the Bleach anime. Her “death” was only rumored so readers can be misled into thinking that she’s done for. But thankfully, a major hint was dropped to fans to indicate that Nel’s alive and well after the final arc of the manga!
Many comrades thought that Nel died in Hueco Mundo. After all, she didn’t make an appearance after her epic battle with Nnoitora!
But in the novel, Bleach: Letters from The Other Side, Nel returned to help the main casts fight against another villain!
Though she was left behind with Orihime, Chad, and Harribel’s faction in Hueco Mundo, Nel took this opportunity to save the former captain of the 12th division and the 6th Espada from their dire conditions!
How Did Nel Survive?
The last time that fans saw Espada #3 (Nel’s former rank in Sōsuke Aizen’s Army), she betrayed Arrancar because she entered Askin Nakk Le Vaar’s poisonous death bubble to save Urahara, Grimjoww, and Yourichi!
Unbeknownst to Nel, Urahara is one step ahead of the game! He left Nel out of their plans because they want her to get a head start on Askin if Urahara and his group are unable to battle Askin. Furthermore, they could allow Nel to help later in the same way she returned for them.
This brief explanation should settle down the rumors about Nel living alongside Grimmjow and the Arrancars.
What Happens To Her After Aizen’s defeat?
Nnoitra Gilga (the 5th Espada) bursts Nel’s head open and forcibly released her Reiatsu out in the open! And though she retained her memories, Nel regressed into her child form (Episode 195). 😢 This happened because during the battle, Nel overconsumed the powers of her Zanpakutō.
When she bumped into Ichigo, however, Nel completely forgot she had been an Arrancar!
Remembering her origins took quite some time. But once she remembered, Ichigo was already sinking in her mind. He kept saving her until he had already rescued her multiple times.
Nel has the strength to fight alongside Ichigo because of the events that took place afterwards. For example, when he got hurt, this triggers her transformation to her true form (a centaur).
She even utilized Cero Deble (Nel’s trademark technique) and her Resurrección blade to protect him! Nel has obviously been growing romantic feelings for Ichigo; but Inoue took notice and became very jealous!
Fans must remember that after reuniting with Ichigo, Nel is free from the control of either The Espada or their manipulator, Aizen. Espada members followed Aizen’s every word out of fear. But since Nel has been freed, she has been showing undying devotion and love to Ichigo and Ichigo alone. 🥰
While Ichigo once perceived Nel as a Hollow, she sees him as a special Soul Reaper. Most of all, he protects her and is kind to her unlike the mistreatments she received from other people.
Many fans also took a liking to Nel because she’s funny and an enjoyable character to watch in TV. Aside from that, she’s extremely hot in full power mode! It’s just sad to know that Nel did not return to her adult self for the rest of the manga.
Orihime Inoue, though, could heal or revert Nel to her adult form. Besides, if they want to fight Quincy, they must gather all the manpower and allies they could get their hands on.
An alternative route is Hachigen reverting Nel back to an adult. After all, Hachigen restored Tsubaki on Orihime’s barrette even though there were incomplete pieces for him!
Well, there you have it 😄 What do you think about this recap on Nel on one of the most intriguing arcs of the anime?

About Bleach
Bleach is a Japanese anime television series based on Tite Kubo’s manga of the same name. The 2004 – 2012 anime series adapts Kubo’s manga but also introduces some new, original, self-contained story arcs.
The story features Ichigo Kurosaki, a 15-year-old high school student living in Karakura Town. He became a substitute Soul Reaper when Rukia Kuchiki, a Soul Reaper, puts Soul Reaper powers in Ichigo! In the first few episodes, the duo barely managed to purify or kill a Hollow.
Although initially reluctant to accept the heavy responsibility, he begins eliminating some more Hollows. He soon discovers that several of his friends and classmates are “spiritually aware” (or “spiritually awakened”) and have powers of their own!
