Reigen Arataka might be one of the most amusing characters, but we cannot deny that he is in fact a con man. He was an average-salary man who was tired of his boring life and started his consultancy business on a whim.
He generally gives his clients massages and throws around salt to get rid of the spirits as he does not possess psychic powers.
His consultancy was not going well and he was about to close it down. However, a young Mob walked into his office asking him for advice for controlling his powers and this changed his life forever.
Since then, he relied on Mob to make up for his lack of powers. However, is Mob aware of Reigen’s truth or is he just being manipulated, let’s find out!
Reigen Arataka is a fraud man who does not possess spiritual powers. Mob has been aware of this from the beginning but decides to accompany and work for Reigen, as he believes that his Master is a good man.
Does Mob know Reigen’s truth?
Reigen is always seen making up excuses when he has to deal with the spirits saying absurd things like his spiritual pressure is too high or he cannot bother himself with puny spirits.
It’s pretty obvious that Reigen is a fraud, however, it is hard to figure out if Mob who is completely devoid of any expressions already knows about his master. Mob also seems to be the kind of person to be fooled easily.
It is, however, revealed in the show later on that Mob already knew about Reigen’s lack of spiritual power. He simply states that his Master is a good man and hence he chooses to stay with him.
When does Mob get to know about Reigen?
In the Separate Ways arc, Reigen’s identity is exposed by a rival psychic and he is forced to answer to the press.
Initially, Reigen tries to protect himself, but eventually remembers the first time he met Mob and simply tells him that he has ‘grown up’.
Mob, who was watching the press coverage on television, uses his psychic powers to protect Reigen. They reunite later on, and Reigen asks Mob if he knew about his truth.
Mob replies by saying, he has known from the very beginning that his Master is a good man. Honestly, I think Mob just means that he has always known from the very beginning that his Master lacked spiritual power.
However, his lack of spiritual power did not bother him as Reigen was a genuinely good person and a caring mentor.
