The 2017 action comedy The Hitman’s Bodyguard recently got its sequel, The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard. Though the sequel left both the fans and the critics quite disappointed, we can’t help wonder what happens to Darius Kincaid.
So whether you liked the sequel, loved it or didn’t like it at all, the popular movie series does have some exciting questions for us to look into. Personally neither of the two films impressed me too much but the first film is way better than the second one.
Alright, enough of the reviews. But what exactly happens to Darius Kincaid (played by Samuel L Jackson) in the films?
1. Who Is Darius Kincaid?
Darius Kincaid in the titular “hitman” in The Hitman’s Bodyguard played by Samuel L Jackson, who appears in both the films. Kincaid is one of the world’s most notorious hitmans and locked up for life.
In the first film, Kincaid is given an interesting offer: his wife, Sonia Kincaid will be released from prison if he testifies against Vladislav Dukhovich, a criminal on trial for his various crimes as the dictator of Belarus.
In the sequel, Sonia Kincaid, Darius’s wife approaches Michael Bryce (Ryan Reynolds) a.k.a the titular “bodyguard”. She needs his help to rescue Darius Kincaid once again.
2. Does Kincaid Die In The Films?
No, Kincaid does not die in either of the films. In The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard, there is an explosion where he does come near to death. But Darius, Sonia and Bryce, all three survive it. We even see Kincaid in the mid credits scene while having sex with Sonia.
So yes, he is very much alive and kicking. In fact, the second film leaves some room for a sequel so I don’t think Darius Kincaid is dying anytime soon either.
3. What Happens To Kincaid In Hitman’s Bodyguard?
At the climax of the Hitman’s Bodyguard, Bryce is shot and Kincaid kicks Dukhovich off the roof for shooting Bryce. Bryce survives the wound, of course.
Kincaid is then rearrested for his other various crimes but several months later, he escapes Belmarsh prison to meet Sonia and celebrate their anniversary together. Deep love indeed.
They meet at the bar in Honduras where they first met and they kiss while a wild bar brawl breaks out around them. So it was sort of a satisfying, happy ending.
4. What Happens To Kincaid In Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard?
In the sequel, Darius Kincaid is again in trouble because mobsters attacked him. But Bryce rescues him along with Sonia.
But here’s the important part: Darius and Sonia expresses their wish to have a child in the film. But Darius cannot have children because of a wound he suffered previously. The film interestingly takes this up and the ending is quite amusing.
So at the end, the Kincaids ask Bryce to sign a form which he thinks is his AAA license, which means the license for him to be able to be a bodyguard again. He had lost his license in the first film.
But, it was actually an adoption form, which means Michael Bryce is actually legally Darius and Sonia Kincaid’s adopted son! So the film ends with the titular trio, the Hitman, the wife and the Bodyguard becoming a dysfunctional family of sorts.
Now why is this significant? I feel it is important because like every other film franchise, this opens up room for a sequel. So we can definitely expect Hitman’s Bodyguard 3. I don’t whether it is just me, but the whole thing kind of reminds me of an action packed version of Modern Family!
I hope the next film in the series turns out to be better than Hitman’s Wife Bodyguard. There’s some good scope for it as well.
