Brooklyn Nine-Nine had some of the best guest cameos I have seen in sitcoms. Guest stars who were so good they came in every season. Be it The Vulture, Holt’s nemesis Madeline Wuntch, and of course the infamous Pontiac Bandit – Doug Judy!
By far one of the most entertaining recurring characters that didn’t even need good lines to be funny. His goofy demeanor and the mischievous smile he entered the episode with were enough to know that you are in for a bumpy joyride!
The chemistry he shared with Jake Peralta was so good, and we’re all guilty of shipping them together like BFFs. They were so good together, Judy could give Charles a run for his money (Even literally, because he’s a criminal & he always escapes!), which brings us to the question – Does Jake ever catch Doug Judy?
Doug Judy escapes Jake a few times but eventually helps Jake catch his stepbrother and is given full immunity absolving him of all his crimes.
I know you’re saying aww, but save that because you might need it later cause we are taking a trip down memory lane and following Jake and Doug’s adventures across all seasons.
1. Season 1 – The Pontiac Bandit
Everything is going great in the 99th Precinct, and we’re thoroughly entertained. But, little do we know that it can get better than this. Enter Doug Judy, the Pontiac Bandit! But Jake Peralta doesn’t know this. To him, Judy is the guy who will lead Jake to his nemesis.
After a series of twists and turns, Judy unravels himself as Jake’s nemesis with complete suave and manages to escape the clutches of the greatest detective slash genius – Jake. And thus begins their chapter of friendship!
I know I’m making it all too dramatic, but you know you felt the heat while watching it. I know you did!
2. Season 2 – The Pontiac Bandit Returns
This time, Jake and Rosa nab Doug, but he makes them an offer they can’t refuse – The drug dealer behind Giggle Pig. Peralta and Judy are back again with their matching bathrobes and their party in a four-star hotel room. (If you’ve ever wondered what cops do on a secret mission, you know the answer!)
As things unfold, Judy gives Jake and Rosa, the drug dealer, and they can arrest him, thus putting an end to a massive racket, but at what cost? Judy manages to escape again. In his defense, though, he was the reason why they got to arrest the dealer. So maybe, he’s not all bad.
3. Season 3 – The Cruise
Well, the settings have now changed, and we’re on this beautiful cruise with Jake and Amy. Judy has reasonable doubt and suspicion that someone is trying to kill him ( I wouldn’t want to kill that smile.)
Though Jake tries to make an arrest, they are on international waters, and he cannot. He also thinks Judy is a liar but later believes him after a couple of attempts. As the final moments approach, Jake lures out the hitman by using Judy as bait and saves the day. Maybe not entirely, cause Judy thanks them by leaving the keys to his suite for Peralta and Santiago and leaving on a small boat.
I guess the third time’s not the charm for Peralta. But again, which bandit gifts you and your girlfriend a swanky suite on a cruise. None other than your best bud Doug Judy!
4. Season 4 – The Fugitive
I know you all are going like, ‘We know how all this ends. Doug comes out of hiding for some reason. Jake helps him while still trying to arrest him and is left in a dilemma. Meanwhile, Judy exploits this dilemma and escapes.’
Well, not quite! This time Judy becomes a free man, like truly free.
Jake wants to catch Doug Judy’s stepbrother because spoiler alert: He is a criminal. So now the good and the bad (not really that bad) guy partner up once again to take down the bigger shark! What ensues is a comedic adventure that ends up with Judy surprising us all. He doesn’t turn on Jake but helps him.
With this, Doug gets complete immunity and is absolved from all his crimes. See, I told you it’s different this time.
5. Season 5 – The Negotiation
Judy, an all-good person, gets pulled into a situation where he has to steal diamonds. Otherwise, his mom gets killed. Though Judy gets the attention of his best bud Peralta and helps catch this guy, Judy still goes to the old ways.
He manages to run away with the diamonds, but the sweet little guy that he is returns them and gives Peralta his wedding gifts. Jake and Judy (The recording of him) end up celebrating by singing karaoke for a long time!
Remember that aww I asked you to save? No, it’s not for now. But we’re approaching that scenario.
6. Season 6 – The Copycat Bandit
This time there’s no escaping, there’s no running away but just two buds solving a crime to save Judy’s life (Why does he always walk into trouble and then try to run away from it. Guess we’ll never know!)
This time Judy fakes his death because an arms dealer thinks Judy’s jacking all his cars and hence puts a hit on him. The reason for that is the pattern, and M.O. is exactly like Judy’s. But Judy says he doesn’t have to do anything with it.
In yet another adventure, maybe with lesser twists, they manage to find the copycat bandit and put everything to rest!
7. Season 7 – The Bachelor Party
Jake finds out that Doug hasn’t invited him to his bachelor party and becomes upset. After all, they were BFFs who stuck their necks out for each other. (Not the time for aww.)
But Judy being Judy has an elaborate setup planned for Peralta because he’s worth much more than a stupid bachelor party. So Doug plans out and tricks Jake into arresting all the criminal friends of Judy, and just when you thought there could be nothing nicer about Judy, he asks Jake to be his best man!
Now, you can go with the awww!
8. Will We See Doug Judy In Season 8
I bet you! In the final season, we will surely get to see these enemies turned friends turned BFFs on one last ride (seriously, it’s definitely the last ride. No sequels whatsoever!)
I can’t wait to see them together in what will be the last season of this epic show called Brooklyn Nine-Nine. It’s releasing on August 12th, so let’s meet then to discuss the premiere. It will give you literal chills!
