The wait is over — The Mayor of Kingstown is back with S2 and it’s getting more intense than ever!
Whatever semblance of a happy reunion we saw for Mike and Iris in The Mayor of Kingstown S2 premiere is now sadly gone. As the chaos and violence on the streets keep increasing, Ep 2 showcases how this throws their relationship into jeopardy as well.
In fact, it’s possible that Iris may have done something that will cause Mike to spiral:
While Iris doesn’t outrightly betray Mike, she does return to Milo in The Mayor of Kingstown S2 Ep 2. This could be because she sees this as the only solution that would bring no harm to Mike or his family.
It’s obvious that although their romance is ill-advised, Iris and Mike do have deep feelings for each other. We yearn with them as they share tender moments that even they know won’t last long.
After the bloody massacre from last season, things are only getting worse — the prisons are nowhere near regulation, and crime on the street is increasing too in retaliation to what occurred inside the prison. What’s worse is that Mike finds out that Milo may have escaped prison!
He spends the good part of Ep 2 trying to find Milo’s body among the hundreds that perished during the massacre. When he fails, he pleads with Evelyn to put out an alert for Milo — But she refuses, on the grounds of it causing more alarm.
During this time, Iris has been placed under home arrest, lest Milo finds her. When she runs away from there to spend time with Mike, he brings her to Kyle’s home and asks his brother to provide safe haven. But they all know this has also made things worse. For if Milo comes looking for Iris, he will not hesitate to kill anyone who stands in his way, be it Mike or the McLusky family.
Iris seems to realize this as well. When Mike’s away, trying to deal with the problem in his own way, she runs out of the house once again.
Next, we see her entering a church where Milo is also present. For fans who were waiting for Aidan Gillen’s return, this is both a happy and scary moment! Here is where Iris admits that she has no one to turn to other than Milo and they share a hug.
It’s definitely heartbreaking to see Iris turn her back on Mike and abandoning him. But I do think her decision rose from not wanting to be a burden to anyone (especially Mike) and putting them in the line of fire in her stead. Mike’s reaction to this is going to be saddening and not something I’m looking forward to in the next episode.
