Fallout 4 is a 2015 action role-playing game developed by Bethesda Game Studios. Set in a post-apocalyptic open world, Fallout 4 is arguably one of the best the series has to offer.
However, despite the game being so good, casual gamers who are new to this genre may find it a little difficult due to its complicated skill-leveling features, powerful early-level enemies, and other niche mechanics.
Luckily, Fallout 4 allows players to adjust the game’s difficulty settings as per their comfort at any time throughout the gameplay.
Fallout 4 does have game difficulty settings. There are a total of 6 difficulty modes in the game:
- Very Easy
- Easy
- Normal
- Hard
- Very Hard
- Survival
As the names suggest, ‘Very Easy’ is the easiest difficulty, while Survival is the hardest. It is even possible to change the difficulty settings mid-game; thus, you don’t need to restart your campaign to play it on a lowered difficulty.
1. How to change the difficulty in Fallout 4?
To change the difficulty in Fallout 4:
- Launch Fallout 4.
- Open the Pause Menu.
- Select the “Gameplay” tab.
- Click onthe “Difficulty” tab
- Select the desired difficulty mode.
2. Is Fallout 4 a hard game?
Fallout 4 can be a difficult game to play and understand initially, but after the players learn its basics and functions, it becomes quite fun and easy.
The game features a multilayer armor system, base building, a chat system with 111,000 lines of speech, and a crafting system that incorporates every lootable object in the game.
The game’s universe is open for exploration, and the player can exit any dialogue at any moment. Once the player has found a certain place, they may fast-travel to go there. Additionally, weapons may be upgraded; the game features over 50 firearms that can be made with over 700 different modifications, including different barrel types and lasers.
All of this can be overwhelming when you first step into the game and so it may feel difficult and confusing. Still, once you are comfortable with the game’s basic mechanics, you will eventually become an expert in all of these areas.
3. What difficulty is best to play Fallout 4 on?
Normal is the best difficulty to play Fallout 4 on, but if the player is already a veteran in Shooter RPG games, then ‘Hard’ will give them a good challenge.
Under any circumstance, I do not recommend starting new on the Survival Mode unless you are well acquainted with the game mechanics and the world of Fallout, which is loaded with overwhelmingly powerful monsters and other NPCs.
4. How does difficulty affect the gameplay in Fallout 4?
Here is how the Fallout difficulty modes affect the gameplay:
Difficulty | Very Easy | Easy | Normal | Hard | Very Hard | Survival* |
Player Damage Dealt | 2x | 1.5x | 1x | 0.75x | 0.5x | 0.75x |
Enemy Damage Dealt | 0.25x | 0.5x | 1x | 1.5x | 2x | 3x |
Legendary Spawn | 0.25x | 0.5x | 1x | 1.5x | 2x | 3x |
As visible, players deal massive damage to the enemies in Very Easy mode and take much less in return. However, as the difficulty increases, the table turns, and the enemies become a bullet sponge, taking meager damage despite the players emptying all their bullet magazines.
5. Does changing difficulty affect achievements in Fallout 4?
Changing difficulty mid-game in Fallout 4 does not affect the achievements. Players can unlock all the achievements even at a lowered difficulty.
However, using mods in the game can disable all the achievements, so it’s advised to have a complete vanilla run on your first try. Once you have all the achievements, you can then dive into the fascinating world of Fallout 4 Mods.
6. Who is the hardest to beat in Fallout 4?
Liberty Prime, the 30 feet tall Robot boss, is the hardest enemy in Fallout 4. Players can battle this optional boss if they choose to encounter the Brotherhood.
This Massive robot is locked at level 45 and has a whopping 5,000,000 health/hit points. Taking it on without adequate preparation will undoubtedly result in a humiliating loss.
7. How long it takes to beat Fallout 4?
Fallout 4’s main storyline can be completed in around 27 hours, and a completionist run (100% completion) takes about 158 hours, according to HowLongToBeat.com.
The above-mentioned time is only relevant if you strictly stick to the quests necessary to complete the main story. If you get distracted by side quests or start exploring the vast world of Fallout 4, then it will surely take you more than just 27 hours.
Additionally, if you are only interested in the main and the side quests, then it will take you a total of 81 hours.
