Four years since Corvo first appeared on gaming setups, Dishonored returns with more motive for revenge, supernatural powers, and honor to diss. Also, while the threats of being an assassin don’t change, a whole bunch apparently has.
Although it’s been more than six years since Dishonored 2 was released, it remains a timeless classic in the world of first-person action-adventure games. As a result, no wonder players keep coming back to skim through the chapters of the Empire of the Isle’s history.
However, before purchasing an aged game, players can’t help but consider its replayability. To allow players to replay Dishonored 2, Arkane Studios instilled a variety of difficulty modes into the game, including Easy, Normal, Hard, and Very Hard, at launch. Furthermore, the game possesses a Custom Difficulty option to enable players to tailor its challenges to their liking.
Nevertheless, nothing screams replayability like New Game Plus because it allows you to retain your endgame progress for an entirely new game campaign.
Fortunately, Dishonored 2 does have New Game Plus. Although the highly requested mode wasn’t a part of the game at launch, Arkane Studios introduced it with Game Update 1 on 15th December 2016. New Game Plus in Dishonored 2 allows players to import all runes, traits of crafted bone charms, and upgrades from a complete playthrough to a new one.
Note: Dishonored 2’s New Game Plus lets Corvo Attano and Emily Kaldwin use each other’s powers.
Here’s more about the post-game content and starting a new game in Dishonored 2.
Does Dishonored 2 have post-game?
Unfortunately, Dishonored 2 does not have post-game. Once you complete the final, ninth mission in the game, the end credits scene rolls, and you return to the main menu. This is probably because Dishonored 2 is a linear and pseudo-open-world game.
Also, Dishonored 2 is a pseudo-open-world game because players can free-roam a map only when it’s being used during a mission. Once the mission is over and you move over to the next, sadly, you can’t return to the previous mission’s location.
The only features that provide a sense of post-game are New Game Plus and the various DLCs in Dishonored 2.
Can you still play Dishonored 2 after you complete the game?
Technically, you can still play Dishonored 2 after completing all the main missions. Once you finish the final mission, Death to the Empress, the credits roll, and the game takes you back to the main menu. Although there’s no post-game, you can head to the saved game files and replay any mission.
Initially, players couldn’t replay or select the missions they wished to return to. But Game Update 2 fixed this by allowing players to restart missions and choose the missions they’d like to go to, irrespective of their order. However, you can only replay the missions you unlock after installing this update.
Instead of replaying each mission, you can start New Game Plus after completing the main plot for a Dishonored 2 rerun with maxed-out powers, weapons, and skills.
What to do in Dishonored 2 after you complete it?
There are several things for players to do after beating the main story in Dishonored 2. You can go back and replay each mission with different difficulties or unlock all 50 achievements spread across the nine missions. Additionally, players can begin the game in New Game Plus or Mission Plus mode for a second playthrough with upgraded perks and items.
Even though it’s pretty challenging to complete the main missions even without a single power, players can return to specific missions to unlock the powers of Corvo and Emily they missed.
Furthermore, Dishonored 2 requires you to select either Corvo or Emily as your character to reclaim the throne. Hence, after beating the game with a single character, you can choose the other to replay the main campaign. Since each character possesses a unique set of characters, swapping them may be fun!
Lastly, the two DLCs in Dishonored 2, Imperial Assassin’s Pack and Dishonored: Death of the Outsider, will keep you occupied for a good amount of time.
Before moving on to the DLCs, you should venture into New Game Plus and replay the entire campaign with upgraded powers. It won’t take long!
What happens when you start a new game in Dishonored 2?
Unlike New Game Plus, when you start a new game in Dishonored 2, all the previous progress is lost, and a rerun begins from scratch. However, there are several slots to save your progress in the game. Hence, it’s wise to save your progress as a saved game file and start a new game in a different slot.
There are two ways to save your game in Dishonored 2 – manual save and auto-save. Registering a manual save is always safer so that you don’t lose hours of grind while starting a new game.
Simply put, if you wish to start a new campaign with no perks and items unlocked, start a new game in Dishonored 2. But, if players want to play from the beginning while retaining all their progress, New Game Plus is the way to go.
