Does Bakugou Really Die in My Hero Academia?

My Hero Academia season 7 is in full swing, with the anime gearing up for its final saga, while the manga has already concluded. Kohei Horikoshi’s masterpiece, which began with a lighthearted tone, has taken a darker turn as the League of Villains has gained momentum. In the epic narrative of My Hero Academia, a series that has transitioned from ‘silly high school antics’ to ‘weekly sobfest’, Deku’s personal growth is intricately intertwined with his evolving bond with Bakugo Katsuki.

The evolution of Bakugo’s personality, shifting from being a bully to becoming a friend, showcases the intricate character development present in My Hero Academia. The core of the series lies in his growth, which is closely connected to his bond with Deku. As the all-time fan-favorite, Bakugo battled with Shigaraki Tomura, the outcome was a defining moment that left millions of hearts shattered.

Bakugo May No Longer Become Number One

My Hero Academia season 7 episode 11, titled “Light Fades to Rain,” aired on July 20, 2024. The episode showcased Bakugo Katsuki battling against Tomura Shigaraki. In the Paranormal Liberation War, Bakugo unlocked his quasi-Quirk Awakening and gained the ability Cluster to enhance his abilities. Using Cluster, he was able to focus all the destructive force of his large explosions into a concentrated attack that he could unleash at close range.

Shigaraki was completely caught off guard when he realized Bakugo’s Cluster was one of the rare moves that could cause permanent damage to his recently strengthened body, leading to his intense anger. When Bakugo drew close enough for an attack, in order for Cluster to be the most efficient, Shigaraki punched him straight in the chest, tearing his heart to shreds.

Everyone is still reeling from the turn of events and is too shocked to admit the new reality-Bakugo is dead.

Is Bakugo Really Dead?

Not really. The swift intervention of Edgeshot, a Pro-Hero, immediately after the realization of Bakugo’s predicament, offers a glimmer of hope. The ninja hero, recognizing Bakugo’s crucial role in the war against Shigaraki, selflessly volunteers to sacrifice his own life to save Bakugo’s.

Using his Foldabody Quirk, Edgeshot stretches himself thin to the point of death and, with his knowledge of the human body, turns himself into a replacement heart for Bakugo, reversing the hero’s death.

Controversial Turn of Events

The sudden twist of events caused debate within the fictional world and among My Hero Academia fans. Due to Edgeshot’s expected sacrifice and the author’s reluctance to definitively kill off characters, it is very unlikely that Bakugo will die.

The death of Bakugo would have meant the end of hope for the heroes. Losing him would have been a devastating blow to the storyline; any triumph over the antagonists would have come with a heavy price. It would have threatened the fundamental essence of the series – the act of finding hope and holding onto it unconditionally.

Bakugo’s destiny is to support the central foundation of the narrative and to maintain the entire game’s stability. Although Bakugo may have been sidelined for a period of time, his death and revival represent the ideals of hope and peace that All Might continuously strived for.

Ultimately, the debate over Bakugo’s fate in My Hero Academia can be resolved easily: he is alive and will come back in due course.
