Omar Sy as Assane is perhaps one of the few non-debatable aspects of the show, Lupin. His performance has elevated the show’s premise and even led to us believing in the plot that’s essentially a tale of revenge heist.
We all know Assane is perhaps one of the best masterminds when it comes to devising strategies and there is nobody else better than him in the Lupin universe. But you see even the best falter at times. In fact, he did falter a bit when Pellegrini came after his son Raoul.
Lupin’s Part 2 has been an intriguing watch for the fans. After mixed reactions and reviews at Part 1, Part 2 has gotten better with a few aspects, if not all.
Assane’s revenge saga continues until he’s either destroyed his nemesis Pellegrini or destroyed himself. He is so good at what he does that he managed to get Pellegrini caught twice. But along the way, he has committed a few crimes to get there. So, does Assane get caught in Lupin?
Assane escaped at the end of Lupin Part 2 and did not get caught. At the end of Part 1, he was almost caught by Guedira but managed to escape. He then devised a master plan to seek vengeance against Pellegrini and managed to do so by methods that weren’t legal. So even after getting Pellegrini to the law, he is on the run because the police are looking for him.
Assane has once again managed to stay a step ahead of everyone – Pellegrini and the law, to escape from everyone’s clutches. This time though, he can take some time off since his thirst for vengeance is fulfilled,
Assane crafts the perfect sketch that can lead to the fall and disgrace of Pellegrini in front of all the elite folks. He plants a mole in Pellegrini’s operation, convinces his daughter Juliette to go against him, leaves clues for Guedira to find evidence that connects Pellegrini to his crimes, and even gets a full-blown confession out of Pellegrini’s own mouth.
Pellegrini confesses to framing Babakar, getting him killed, getting Fabienne killed by Leonard, getting Leonard killed, framing Assane for it, and even trying to kill Raoul. I know, right!
He’s pretty much confessed to all his sins, but I don’t know if the truth will set him free. In fact, he might have to face the justice system this time without any influence or help from the Interior Orders.
However, despite all this, Assane has gotten his hands dirty to come out clean to the cops. I guess there’s some irony there. So he still has the police on his tail. But that doesn’t stop him because he can slip past pretty much anyone, or so it seems because once again, Assane evades the law and is currently on the run, trying to hide from them.
So, what will happen to Assane? Will we know it in the next season? Wait, is there going to be a next season?
Will There Be a Lupin Part 3?
Lupin’s Part two ending still leaves a few plot points open for exploration, with Assane still being a wanted man. Though an official release date has not been confirmed yet, the show creator, in an interview with Radio Times, said that Part 3 episodes might come out in 2022.
We don’t know yet about what will happen to Assane, but I think it might steer just a little bit away from the entire revenge theme we’ve seen in the first two parts. Unless, the creators want to showcase more conflict and build more tension between the villain Pellegrini and Assane.
Well, whatever that may be, it will be interesting to see the creators try new tropes and take the narrative in a fresh direction. I guess we’ll just have to wait to find out.
