The once disciplined Imperial Operative who firmly believed in maintaining order in the galaxy, Agent Kallus is known to have done his best to subdue dissent.
But many characters in the Star Wars universe have been turncoats, including, yes, Agent Alexsandr Kallus! If you were wondering whether Agent Kallus joined the Rebels, your hunch would be spot-on. Agent Kallus does join the Rebels. Let’s look at the story surrounding Kallus’ choice of rebellion.
In season 2 episode 17 of Star Wars Rebels, the former Imperial Security Bureau agent, Kallus, joins the rebellion alliance and fights for their cause, thereby becoming a vital ally of the Ghost group.
Why Did Kallus Join the Rebellion?
As part of the Royal Imperial Academy in Coruscant, Kallus was once quite the disciplined and admired pupil who graduated with an impressive record, finally becoming an agent of the Imperial Security Bureau.
He advanced through the ranks rather swiftly later on, and was soon assigned to chase the Lothal Rebels, specifically the Ghost crew. When Kallus was trapped during his quest on Bahryn, Geonosis’ frozen moon, he spent a considerable amount of time with Zeb.
After an unsuccessful Imperial ambush, Kallus and the Lasat Rebel Garazeb Orrelios (Zeb) are stranded on an ice planet in isolation. Even though they are arch enemies at this point, Zeb and Kallus are forced to figure out how to survive together.
With no escape other than to converse, the two characters bond over their common experience as soldiers. When Kallus eventually returns to the Empire, he sets the meteorite given to him by Zeb on a shelf.
We then see him sitting down in deep thought, indicating the change of mind he has gone through during this time, thereby leading to Kallus’s final decision to join the Rebels as a spy.
The Icy Yet Cozy Moon of Geonosis
“You can’t judge all Lasats as the same. Does that sentiment apply to Imperials?“
Agent Kallus
“All the Imperials I know.“
Zeb
The beginning of the episode marks the Ghost crew heading to the Imperial construction modules orbiting Geonosis, later getting attacked by hidden All Terrain Defense Pods. A skirmish ensues involving some of the Rebels (including Zeb) and the ISB agents (including Kallus). Zeb then manages to enter an escape pod on an Imperial construction module, when he is struck by Kallus.
While onboard the escape pod headed to Geonosis, Kallus and Zeb engage in combat, during which, the pod’s controls break, and it ends up on the way to an icy moon of Geonosis. Once on the frozen moon, Zeb states that he would rather have Kallus recover from his injuries and engage in a fair fight instead of taking down a weak warrior.
Zeb and Kallus then end up talking about the situation in the galaxy, during which Zeb states that there will always be Rebels to fight the Imperials
This led to Kallus introspecting over the life he had had so far and the things he had been party to all this while. He realized that the Galaxy was, in fact, not better off under the rule of Palpatine.
Are Zeb and Kallus a Couple Now?
Given their bond and the fact that they were so similar, fans have always speculated whether Zeb and Kallus are a couple. Their story arc has always fit the popular enemies-to-lovers trope, and many fans have shipped the two for a while now.
Suffice to say, all the shippers were more than happy with how their beloved characters did get together.
Although their story began as enemies out for each other’s blood, their relationship later developed to them becoming allies, and then close friends. This eventually led to them becoming lovers!
Actor Steve Blum, who voices Zeb in Star Wars Rebels had this to say:
“From the very first time Zeb and Kallus appeared together, I joked that someday they’d become a couple and end up on Lira San together. I had no idea that it would actually happen! It was the greatest gift anyone had ever given me in terms of a character’s evolution.”

Where Are Zeb and Kallus Now?
During the season 4 finale, Sabine Wren reveals that Zeb and Kallus are on the secret plant Lira San, where the remaining Lasat Rebels took Kallus in, and he lives with Zeb there.
In the finale episode, there is a beautiful moment where we see Zeb introducing Kallus to the former’s home planet. Zeb then rests his hand on Kallus’ shoulder as a sweet, romantic gesture.
Are you crying yet?
Agent Kallus: The Rebel
“You have the heart of a Rebel.”
Thrawn
Once he had joined the rebellion, Kallus turned out to be an incredible asset for the Lasat. Not only was he a skilled and intelligent individual, but he also had vast knowledge of the Imperial Security Bureau, which came in handy for the Rebels.
He then became a secret informant of the Rebels, leaking all necessary information while still posing as an ISB agent. Unfortunately for Kallus and some of the Rebels, Grand Admiral Thrawn soon discovered Kallus’ betrayal, which led to him being trapped.
When the Rebels came to his rescue, there was an arduous battle that Thrawn eventually succumbed to, and Kallus was hailed as a hero among the Rebels.
About Star Wars Rebels
Star Wars Rebels is a four-season-long animated TV series animated and produced by Lucasfilm Animation. Rebels aired its first episode on October 14, 2014, and follows the story of rebels who make the rebellion happen against The Empire in the Star Wars Universe.
The plot revolves around a team of Rebels and clearly the most unique team combination we have seen in Star Wars so far. The rebel team is led by Jedi Knight Kenan Jarrus and Hera Syndulla – daughter of Cham Syndulla who once fought the Separatists with Jedi Master Windu during the Clone Wars.
We also have an R2D2-style astromech – Chopper, an ex-Mandalorian – Sabine Wren, and a Lasat – Garazeb Orellios. The team’s rebellion starts escalating quickly when they encounter a strong force-sensitive boy, Ezra Bridger on the planet of Lothal.
