Disney has revealed a new updated synopsis for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and it teases a ‘mind-bending’ and ‘dangerous’ multiversal adventure.
Although Strange temporarily averted the multiversal threat in Spider-Man: No Way Home, just minutes later, the post-credit trailer for the Doctor Strange sequel assured that it was only just beginning.
Marvel has been setting up the multiverse with various projects, and the sequel will establish it once and for all. From Wanda unleashing her full potential as Scarlet Witch to Loki(s) bombing the timeline to three Peters uniting in NWH, the concept has been rooted deeply into Phase 4.
The updated synopsis for the upcoming sequel reads,
In Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the MCU unlocks the Multiverse and pushes its boundaries further than ever before. Journey into the unknown with Doctor Strange, who, with the help of mystical allies both old and new, traverses the mind-bending and dangerous alternate realities of the Multiverse to confront a mysterious new adversary.
This synopsis doesn’t give away too much but based on the trailer, one can guess the “adversary” in question is none other than Doctor Strange himself, i.e., one of his evil variants. There’s a possibility he might join forces with Baron Mordo from the first film.
However, the ‘good’ Doctor Strange isn’t alone and has some allies with the likes of Wong, the new Sorcerer Supreme since the blip, Wanda/Scarlet Witch fresh out of Westview, and America Chavez, the latest entry to the MCU.
The Sam Raimi-directed sequel recently wrapped up reshoots and will supposedly feature important cameos.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has its theatrical release set for May 6, 2022.
