Sam Raimi Talks About the Deleted Scenes in Doctor Strange 2

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has nearly 35 minutes of deleted footage from the first cut.

Adding deleted scenes is a great tactic to keep fans more engaged in future releases, and thanks to Sam Raimi’s recent interview, we know Marvel will include at least two or three later on. 

In an interview with Collider, Raimi shared how long his first cut was, the deleted scenes, and the reshoots.

The Doctor Strange 2 director was asked about the deleted scenes he might want to release down the road. He shared that though he doesn’t know the “full extent” of it, a few might be included.

“I’m trying to remember what Marvel is including in the deleted scenes. It’s really going to be their decision, but I know that there are at least two or three deleted scenes that will be included. I don’t know the full extent of them though.”

Raimi then talked about the original length of the movie – his first cut – and how much was cut from it.

[Quote: “Well, the first cut was… I actually don’t remember the length of it. It was probably like two hours and 40 minutes, and it slowly came down even though we did the reshoots. We took out material even though the reshoots went in. So, it slowly got down to about two hours and five minutes, is the total.”]

Despite reshoots and delays, it seems that there was a chunk of things that were deleted for the final cut.

The scenes might have or have not saved the movie. The extremely hyped-up Doctor Strange 2 opened to mixed reviews and currently has only a 75% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes. A consistent reason is the Multiverse of Madness being clogged with minute MCU details and rushed storytelling.

However, the audiences and some critics love the magical-fantasy genre-shifting to numerous horror moments.

It remains to be seen which, if any, deleted scenes will be released in future release versions of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
