Marvel Entertainment CEO Kevin Feige has confirmed that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will wrap filming this week. The sequel to 2016’s Doctor Strange will be hitting the big screen in 2022. Filming began late last year in the UK, and no details on production have resurfaced until now.
Feige, who recently sat down for an interview with The Undefeated, reported that the film is in its final week of filming. He is currently in London to oversee the end of production and is donning one of his traditional MCU hats, albeit a new one for the sequel.
The chief of Marvel Studios was also sure to give a shoutout to Elizabeth Olsen (Wanda Maximoff), who started work on the movie immediately after finishing WandaVision.
It has also been reported that the total production time on Doctor Strange 2 will be a couple of months longer than Marvel’s initially planned schedule. This is probably due to filming amidst a pandemic, as production had to be paused repeatedly due to restrictions and lockdowns in the UK.
Fortunately, there have been no positive cases amongst the cast and crew. But, even among all the scrutiny, very little is known about the upcoming movie. As of now, there are only six cast members who are confirmed, and to date, not a single set photo has been leaked!
With all the secrecy, Marvel is definitely building upon the anticipation for the release of Doctor Strange 2.
There are still four more Marvel movies to come out before it, and the studio hasn’t dropped any hints about the marketing campaign to let fans get even a peek of what the multiverse-filled film might consist of.
Despite the success of the first film, it took a long time for Doctor Strange‘s sequel to get the green signal, and even then, it faced many obstacles along the way. Scott Derrickson, who directed Doctor Strange, stepped down in 2020 after being signed for the job in 2018.
He was replaced by Sam Raimi, who took over in April 2020. Cast members for the sequel were announced during Disney’s Investor Day in December.
Chiwetel Ejiofor (Mordo), Rachel McAdams (Christine Palmer) and Benedict Wong (Wong) were confirmed to reprise their previous roles. It also announced the new addition of Xochitl Gomez, who will play the role of America Chavez.
As filming gets close to an end, here’s hoping Marvel doesn’t make us wait too long for a look into the upcoming movie.
