Getting reincarnated as a new person and starting a new life is so common lately. However, the Korean manhwa ‘Doctor Elise’, adds a new element to it – Time Travel. The story is about a young Doctor who remembers her previous life as a greedy and jealous wife of the emperor.
In her current reincarnation, she looked forward to saving lives as a doctor and atoning for her transgressions. However, a plane crash ends her life, and she gets reincarnated as…the emperor’s wife again.
On Thursday, the official website for the ‘Doctor Elise’ (also known as ‘Surgeon Elise’) anime revealed its first teaser with a new visual. The teaser also revealed the main staff and the release window for the series, i.e., January 2024.
The video shows the protagonist Dr. Song Jihyun thinking about why she became a doctor and how her past life was. The plane she is in is about to crash. She hopes not to die. After that, we see her reborn as Elise, her previous incarnation.
She then decides to become a doctor and call off her engagement with the prince. The prince still wants to continue. The third character, Graham, wonders when she learned the art of medicine.

I am intrigued by the whole premise of ‘reincarnation-into-past-life’. The story also seems to incline towards the doctor’s feats, making it a medical fantasy. Moreover, the manhwa was finished in 2021, so we can expect a complete and compact adaptation.

Doctor Elise: The Royal Lady with the Lamp is a South-Korean web novel written by yuin. A manhwa adaptation illustrated by mini was serialized in KakaoPage from September 2017 to February 2021.
The story is about a girl named Elise who is constantly reincarnated and is already on her third incarnation. In her former life, she was executed as a wicked emperor; in her second life, she becomes a surgeon in modern times to atone for her sins.
One day Elise is sent back to her first life due to an unfortunate accident. Utilizing her knowledge of modern medicine, she starts again looking for redemption.
