Natsu and Lucy are two of the most adorable members of Fairy Tail that we all just can’t keep our eyes off. When we see how the two act around eachother, isn’t it natural for a viewer to think, “Why can’t they just get together already.”?
Well, the three seasons of the Fairy Tail anime have made us think exactly that throughout the series. Any progress between the two? A debatable question. With 3 seasons worth of Natsu-Lucy gossip, let’s delve into the topic.
Who are Natsu and Lucy? How did they Meet?
Natsu is a fire dragon slayer from the guild Fairy Tail. Lucy is a runaway teenage girl (also a celestial wizard) who was hoping to get into Fairy Tail, the No.1 guild in Fiore.
A chance encounter between the two leads to the start of an adventure, after which Natsu invites Lucy to join Fairy Tail, to which Lucy happily obliges.
This is an iconic scene from the first episode of Fairy Tail from where the adventure starts. Natsu wrecks an entire harbor and makes a run for it while asking Lucy to join Fairy Tail.
What is their Current Relationship?
Lucy and Natsu are close friends who have immense amounts of trust in each other. Well, the same would go for any member of Fairy Tail, but for Lucy and Natsu, who have done a ton of quests together, the amount of time they have spent together is much greater, and this is reflected in their relationship.
When Lucy has needed help the most, Natsu has always been there from the beginning. Starting from when she was kidnapped by the Phantom Lord till the end of the series.
Does Lucy Love Natsu?
Based on Lucy’s behavior towards Natsu at certain points in the series, the answer to this question tilts towards yes.
In the 50th episode of Fairy Tail, titled “Special Request: Watch out for the guy you like”, when Natsu told Lucy he had something important to say to her, she totally assumes he is going to confess to her. This, of course, wasn’t the case; he had something really irrelevant to tell her, but Lucy was busy fantasizing about being in a relationship with Natsu and blushing.
This was maybe the first indicator or the beginning of her feelings for him
Another indicator of this is that Lucy is always quick to bawl her eyes out if something happens to Natsu. This has happened way too many times in the series, like in the movie Dragon Cry when Lucy thought Natsu had died or when Natsu fell into a coma when the demon seed inside him grew.
However, it is still important to note that Lucy has never once admitted her feelings for Natsu throughout the series.
Does Natsu Love Lucy?
This is a slightly harder question with a less definitive answer. Lucy is certainly a very important person to Natsu. The number of times that he has gotten angry on Lucy’s behalf shows this.
The one instance that could be indicative of Natsu having feelings for Lucy was in the Eclipse arc when Natsu met Lucy from the Future. On hearing her plight, he reassures her and vows to fix the future for everyone.
In an unfortunate incident where the future Rouge kills future Lucy, when everyone is left in tears, Natsu swears that he won’t let anyone steal Lucy’s future with tears in his eyes. Since Natsu crying in itself is a rare occurrence in the series, this shows how much Lucy’s existence means to Natsu.
Getting back to the question: Does Natsu like Lucy? Probably Yes is all we can say at this point, as there is no conclusive evidence given in the anime.
Are Natsu and Lucy Together?
Frustratingly enough, No. Three whole seasons worth of the couple with immense chemistry, having their special moments, but unfortunately, Natsu is too dense, and Lucy is too shy for their own good.
While the answer to this question is no as of now, it doesn’t have to stay that way. Fairy Tail has come back with its new season: Fairy Tail 100-Year Quest. With the plot moving on, let’s hope for some kind of progress in the relationship between the two.
