2.1 Bubble Head Nurse

The Bubble Head Nurse appears as a female monster dressed as a nurse and wields a melee weapon. It represents James’s mixed emotions about his wife’s death. On one hand, it symbolizes his repressed sexual desires, as the nurses wear revealing outfits. It also reflects his anger towards the hospital system for his wife’s passing.

2.2 Creeper

An enormous, aggressive cockroach that hunts you down when you get too close. It directly represents James Sunderland’s troubled mind, symbolizing something bothering him. That’s why it appears in a dark room when James’ flashlight suddenly goes out.

2.3 Lying Figure

The first monster James encounters is a Lying Figure, which resembles faceless people wearing straitjackets made of their flesh. The figure is vaguely feminine and appears pained in its movements. It attacks by throwing up on James from a hole in its chest, representing Mary’s illness. 

2.4 Mandarin

Mandarin is a strange monster that looks like a female figure and stays underground, usually under steel meshing. This monster has arms with fleshy mouths that it uses to attack James with its tongue. 

There are two reasons why the monster is stuck underground. First, the female body is connected to caves and holes below the ground. Second, being under the earth means it is hidden in the subconscious mind. Specifically, it is linked to James having killed Mary.

2.5 Mannequin

The Mannequin is a monstrous figure resembling two fashion dummies sewn together with two pairs of legs. It is believed to be a physical representation of Sunderland’s pent-up sexual frustration.

2.6 Pyramid Head (Honourable Mention)

Pyramid Head, a character from the previous installments of Silent Hill, is not present in Silent Hill 2 Remake. It represents the negative and repressed aspects of the main character, James Sunderland’s, psychology, including aggression, sexuality, and negativity. 

Pyramid Head embodies unrestrained, aggressive, and oppressive masculinity in the game. It exhibits behavioral characteristics associated with negative representations of masculinity, acting as an executioner and a hunter.

4. About Silent Hill 2 Remake

Silent Hill 2 Remake is an upcoming survival horror video game developed by Bloober Team and published by Konami. The game is set to be released on PlayStation 5 and Windows on 8th October, 2024.

It is a remake of the 2001 video game of the same name and will be the first major installment in the Silent Hill franchise since Silent Hill: Downpour in 2012.
