Just as we find the devil come so close to finding salvation in love, it moves further away from him. It’s because god has intended it as punishment and also because Netflix has a show to run!
The supernatural detective series Lucifer has an eternal will-they-wont-they at its heart with the almost-lovers being the banished angel Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis) and the human detective Chloe Decker (Lauren German).
With the latest season airing on Netflix, the question of whether Chloe and Lucifer was resolved considering they definitely are together, for now.
The new question is will they end up together even at the end of the world (I mean the show!).
After a long and arduous journey of four season, Chloe confessed her love for Lucifer and in season 5 we see them imagining a life together.
However, it is not going to be so dreamy for long considering the writers are not in the mood for Lucifer mending his evil ways and coming to live on earth with Chloe. That sure isn’t happening. But there is “happy-ish” ending instead.
Read on to find the future of the Chloe-Lucifer ship which has been given many names – Deckerstar, Chulcifer, Chluci, Chlocifer. (Comment below your favorite one. I think mine is Deckerstar, sounds like a boat too.)
1. So Close Yet So Far
Chloe Decker is a homicide detective and member of the L.A.P.D. She first met Lucifer while investigating a murder at Lux, the nightclub he owns. The two later become partners when Lucifer is hired as a police consultant.
Chloe has been an integral part of the show since the very first season, and the L.A.P.D. detective has had quite the interesting journey on the show.
From the start, Chloe has been pulling a Bella from Twilight or Beckett from Castle and has been portrayed as a secretly magical woman.
Lucifer’s powers include superhuman strength, flight, and the ability to persuade and charm most people.
However, Chloe is immune to his charms, and while Lucifer is also immortal and (usually) unable to get hurt, she makes him vulnerable to harm when they’re together.
It’s likely that Lucifer’s emotional vulnerability and love towards Chloe affects his mortality. The girl makes the devil fall on his knees, so you get the point.
2. When Chloe Said the Magic Words
There is even a point in time when Lucifer is rethinking his relationship with Chloe, instead of the usual way around. He finds himself to be unworthy of Chloe and wants to part ways.
However, it is Chloe then who pursues him aggressively and for a moment there the couple exchange seats of the pursuer and the pursued. Soon after, we come to know Chloe is more than just a regular human cop.
The circumstances of Chloe’s birth had led some to wonder if she’s actually an angel—her parents were having trouble conceiving, and so God sent Amenadial (Lucifer’s older brother and fellow angel) to Earth to bless them with a child.
While it doesn’t seem like Chloe is an angel, she is considered to be “blessed,” and that’s probably why she’s immune to Lucifer’s powers.
Not just that, Chloe also sees Lucifer’s devil face and still accepts her feelings for him. So it comes as no surprise to fans that at the end of season 4, she confesses with a teary “I love you.”
3. Season 5: Romance Begins at Last
At the end of Season 4, after Chloe finally opens up about her feeling for Lucifer, he is forced to return to hell. Lucifer seems to have no other option but to return to rule over hell as the prophecy on Earth is fulfilled.
Father Kinley (Graham McTavish) had warned Lucifer that once he meets his first love, hell on earth would be released.
Although Eve (Inbar Lavi) was supposed to be Lucifer’s first love, Detective Decker turned out to be the only woman Lucifer loved.
Yet, Lucifer still has not said the “L” word back to Chloe. Since he never lies, we are left wondering if the devil can really love someone…
Moreover, the one litmus test we all had for Lucifer’s love for Chloe, which was him being vulnerable to harm around her, has also long gone in the new season.
But just when things seem all hopeless, Lucifer is able to temporarily escape his imprisonment in the underworld for a fleeting visit with Chloe.
So in season 5, the couple finally gave the audience the pleasure of seeing them together. While all storylines picked up pace quite satisfactorily, theirs was the one that warmed most hearts.
Chloe moves into his penthouse, leaving us all guess if her next move would be to hell itself. However, the L-word remained missing till the first part’s end.
At one point in season 5, their conversation almost came to a romantic crescendo, but Lucifer’s declaration was interrupted by Amenadiel’s time-stopping ability, as well as the arrival of newcomer-God himself. So close!
4. Will They Stay Together?
Given that the series is likely renewed for a sixth season, we can expect a longer foreplay before Chloe and Lucifer can have a proper ever after. The infamous prophecy is a major barrier for this to happen.
Lucifer believes in Father William Kinley’s prophecy:
“Once the devil walks the earth and finds his first love evil shall be released.”
But while Lucifer finds the phrase “evil shall be released” to mean that he will unleash evil on the world if he and Chloe are together.
The unleashed evil will then carry out all the crimes that will be left for Chloe and Lucifer to solve next. But I guess Lucifer is smart enough to realise the world is bigger than Los Angeles and demons that many more!
However, moving forth, fan theories say the prophecy has been misunderstood.
One Reddit user believes that the prophecy actually means that Lucifer:
“wouldn’t hate himself (the evil being released) because Chloe and him are in love. He wouldn’t have to have gone back to hell.”
And then Chlucifer will happen.
Others believe that Chloe will begin to develop more powers, and then Chluci will happen. Yet another person in the same post thinks Lucifer will be forced to choose between mortality and immortality.
A similar theory sees Lucifer returning to Earth as a mortal, or Chloe being granted immortality as a gift from God. And then Luciloe will happen.
But there’s one theory in particular that’s gaining a lot of heat online—some fans are convinced that Chloe will die during season five, but it’ll actually end up being positive as she could end up becoming the Queen of Hell through her love for Lucifer.
And then Chloe will move in with Lucifer into Hell and then Deckerstar will happen.
