Call me controversial, but I’ve never been a Mr. Big fan. So when And Just Like That… opened up the possibility of Aidan returning, I was looking forward to seeing his new dynamics with Carrie on the show.
Now that we only have one episode left in the season, I’m sure you have the same question as me: Where on Earth is Aidan? Should we put a hold on the Carrie-Aidan reunion?
Last we saw Aidan was in Sex and the City 2, where he had a run-in with Carrie in Dubai. Despite them both being married (and Aidan with kids), the two share a kiss but then decide not to take it further, and Carrie returns to Mr. Big.
Trailer:
As of yet, Aidan has not appeared in any episodes of And Just Like That… This definitely lowers the possibility of Carrie and Aidan ending up together.
Even though the show’s penultimate episode has just aired, there still is a small chance that we may see Aidan before the curtains are closed. Let’s get into that:
Will Aidan appear in the Finale of And Just Like That…?
It’s been nine episodes, and there is not a single mention about Aidan.
Now, I get it—after Mr. Big, Aidan is supposed to be Carrie’s other great love; they certainly do have more chemistry. So, it may make for a grand surprise if Aidan is brought out in the finale.
But to me, it seems a little crass to wait until the season finale to re-introduce Aidan (if they’re at all bringing him back.) There has been absolutely no build-up to the appearance and would just seem like a last-minute salvage.
Fans’ questions about Aidan’s return are more than valid, even aside from the storyline’s perspective. John Corbett himself had confirmed to Page Six that he was excited to do the show and would appear in a “couple of episodes.” But now with only the finale left, we’re way past that point.
A really easy way to tie in Aidan’s appearance would be via the Scout Bar, which he and Steve co-own. In fact, the two were really good buddies in SATC, so it’s odd that Steve hasn’t spoken about his friend yet. (Even Sam got several passive-aggressive mentions.)
So, it’s either of two things: Aidan is not returning for Season 1 of And Just Like That… or, we have one big finale (and cliffhanger?) waiting for us, come February 3. As the show’s renewal is currently on hold, having Aidan in the finale may do it some good.
Carrie’s Potential Love Interests
In the past, Carrie has also dated Jack Berger and Aleksandr Petrovsky in SATC. But neither are iconic enough to return as Carrie’s love interests in AJLT.
After Mr. Big’s death, Carrie’s life turns upside down and she’s yet to find closure. At her friends’ encouragement, she does try to start dating again.
After one disastrous date with new character Peter, the two have a redo in AJLT Episode 9. Jon Tenney’s Peter is definitely swoon-worthy, but Carrie decides it’s still too soon to commit to relationships. Still, I find Peter’s character to be quite grounded and charming, so if I were Carrie, I wouldn’t let go of it yet.
Episode 9 Trailer:
Carrie and Aidan’s Dating History
Carrie and Aidan first meet and start dating in SATC’s Season 3. But soon after, Carrie starts having an affair with a married Big. When Big’s wife catch the two together, Carrie confesses to Aidan, who breaks up with her.
However, in Season 4 itself, the two get back together. Things get so serious that Aidan even proposes to Carrie, to which she says yes. But alas, as she still has room for Mr. Big in her heart, Carrie and Aidan separate once again.
In Season 6, Carrie finds out that Aidan has gotten married and has a kid. In SATC 2, it is confirmed he is still married, although he still has feelings for Carrie.
And just like that, we’re left to anticipate if Aidan will once again waltz his way into Carrie’s life in AJLT’s finale.
