During this lockdown, Disney has released behind-the-scenes series for at least two of its biggest productions.
After the hit Star Wars spin-off The Mandalorian, Disney is coming out with the making-series for Frozen 2. The six-part series, titled Into the Unknown: Making Frozen 2 will premiere later next month, on June 26.
In what may be the first time in Disney’s nearly 100-year-old history, the animation studio will share with the world all that goes into the making of its productions.
Taking to Twitter earlier this month, Disney announced the premiere date for Into the Unknown: Frozen 2.
The series is expected to capture how the voice cast, directors, and team of artists fused their creative powers to bring out Frozen 2. We can see all the hard work, imagination, fun, and intensity that went into making this second chapter in our beloved Elsa’s story.
There is the director/writer/chief creative officer Jennifer Lee along with director Chris Buck, producer Peter Del Vecho taking care of the big picture.
While songwriters Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, actors Kristen Bell (Anna), Idina Menzel (Elsa), Josh Gad (Olaf), Jonathan Groff (Kristoff), Sterling K. Brown (Lieutenant Mattias), Evan Rachel Wood (Iduna) and the talented artists and technicians of Disney Animation fill it up with the minuter details.
Early release
The premiere date for the making series, June 26, could sound familiar to many.
Yes, it is the same date Frozen 2 the movie was going to arrive on Disney+ but ended up releasing months earlier in March.
In a tweet shared earlier this month, Disney revealed the premiere date and length of the upcoming show.
With the movie itself set to arrive on Disney+ not before June, the making series was also scheduled for sometime around September this year. But in a rare move Disney pushed up its streaming date by 3 months and released Frozen 2 on Disney+ in March itself.
The move was strategic and it definitely brought many families stuck at home during the lockdown, aboard the Disney streaming ship. Disney saw one of the fastest growing subscriptions among streamers the first six months of its release and Frozen 2 had a good contribution to it.
Frozen 2 was already the third highest grosser for Disney, gathering over $1.4 billion on box offices around the world and setting a record for animated films to aspire to. Now, the makers are ready to share all that went into making it the success it was.
It also seems that the production legend is definitely committed to it’s new streaming platform. From bringing the film 3 months earlier and cutting into its home release time to a whole new production about the production of its best films and shows, Disney is giving out the message that it has arrived in the streaming warzone and definitely not as an underdog!
Tune into the Disney+ on June 26 for Into the Unknown: Making of Frozen 2. The film is already streaming on the platform’s premium version. Comment below to let us know how you liked Frozen 2 and what are your expectations from its upcoming making video.
