The movie is based on the best-selling book Diary of a Wimpy Kid, which became a literary and commercial success as soon as it was released in 2004. It’s created by author and cartoonist Jeff Kinney, who has also written and produced the upcoming animated version of the book.

The book is based on Greg Heffley and his hilarious adventures as he navigates through high school and his life. He does all this by keeping a journal by his side, noting events, drawing silly adventures and more.

While multiple live-action have already been made on the book, Disney+’s upcoming animation movie has the upper hand, at least by the looks of the hype.

The latest released teaser shows Greg’s slim legs and a cheese slice home to growing fungus and smell. The tagline states, “New school. Old cheese”, hinting at the book’s hallmark Cheese Touch.

To jog the reader’s memory, Cheese Touch is the unofficial game played at Greg’s school, Westmore Middle School. The one with the Cheese Touch is officially an outcast. They remain that way no matter how many days, months or years pass by. The tag of an outcast will only leave them once it is passed on to someone else, which can only be done by touching another person.

By the looks of the poster, director Swinton Scott will set up expectations with his animated version of Greg and his adventures. Brady Noon, Ethan William Childress and Chris Diamantopoulos are the only voice cast confirmed till now.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid animated movie is slated to release on December 3, 2021 exclusively on Disney+.
