20th Century’s upcoming film, Kingsman 3, has joined the long list of films along with Disney’s own Bob’s Burgers and Ron’s Gone Wrong, which were delayed due to the COVID pandemic. Initially meant to release in November 2019, the film went through several delays, and finally has an official date.
Disney and 20th Century delayed Ralph Fiennes starrer Kingsman 3 by nearly five months, and a release date of August 20, 2021, has been announced in a press release. If the film manages to stick to this schedule, it will have hit the theatres almost two years after its original release date.
The Kingsman prequel titled, The King’s Man has been delayed multiple times over the two years, despite being premiere-ready. It was initially meant to release in November 2019.
But after Disney acquired 20th Century Studios (then, 20th Century Fox), they moved the release date so that their films would not have to fight each other for box office success. The Studio moved the release date from November 2019 to February 2020.
Then, the pandemic happened which delayed the film even further. After getting postponed multiple times, it is now slated to release on August 20, 2021 (hopefully).
Other major studios seem to have realized that films cannot be released in theatres anytime soon either. MGM’s No Time To Die and Sony Pictures’ Morbius, Ghostbusters: Afterlife, and Uncharted have also been delayed.
Tired of seemingly never-ending delays, Disney has been giving theatrical releases a miss for many of its big films. Nomadland and Raya and the Last Dragon, which were preparing for a big-screen release, have signed a contract to be released on Disney’s streaming platform.
By the time we get to see The King’s Man in the theatres, that is if it does release in August, all its trailers and teasers would be over two years old. It will be interesting to see how successful the film turns out to be since the fate of the entire franchise currently rides on its shoulders. It’s wait and watch something else time.
