Disclaimer: Release Date, Cast, Plot and Everything We Know

Suppose you’re looking forward to seeing Cate Blanchett star in a new series after some years from television. In that case, you’ll be glad that Apple TV+ has finally set a premiere date for their upcoming new show Disclaimer, a new thriller from 5-time Academy Award-winning director Alfonso Cuarón.

Surprisingly, this is not Cuarón’s first time working on television; he previously produced the science fiction series Believe. Blanchett is familiar with the concept, recently appearing in Hulu’s limited series Mrs. America.

Nonetheless, the drama unfolds cinematic, with a superb ensemble cast that includes Kevin Kline, Lesley Manville, Sacha Baron Cohen, Leila George, and Squid Game’s Jung Ho-yeon.

1. When will Disclaimer Release?

Apple TV+ presented a first-look graphic for the series, revealing that the first two episodes would be available on the platform on October 11, with fresh episodes added every Friday after that.

2. Disclaimer: Cast and Crew Details

If Blanchett alone isn’t enough to pique your interest in Disclaimer, the rest of the cast will. Aside from the Oscar winner, the cast includes Kevin Kline (The Good House), Sacha Baron Cohen (The Trial of the Chicago 7), Kodi Smit-McPhee (The Power of the Dog), Lesley Manville (The Crown), Louis Partridge (Enola Holmes 2), Leila George (Animal Kingdom), and Hoyeon (Squid Game).

The series is written and directed by Alfonso Cuarón, well known for directing Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and receiving Academy Award nominations for Gravity and Roma.

“Disclaimer” is produced by Apple Studios, Esperanto Filmoj, and Anonymous Content. Cuarón and Gabriela Rodriguez serve as executive producer for Esperanto Filmoj.

Blanchett not only stars but also serves as an executive producer. Anonymous Content’s executive producers include David Levine and the late Steve Golin. Emmanuel Lubezki, an Academy Award winner, Donald Sabourin, and Carlos Morales serve as executive producers.

“Disclaimer” is based on Renée Knight’s novel of the same name, which she also co-executive produces. Lubezki and Academy Award nominee Bruno Delbonnel serve as directors of photography. Finneas O’Connell, who has won an Academy Award and a Grammy, created the score.

3. Is there a trailer for Disclaimer?

Apple TV+ revealed the “Disclaimer” trailer, the acclaimed psychological thriller told in seven chapters on September 24, 2024.

4. Disclaimer: Plot Details

The psychological thriller follows Catherine (Blanchett), a well-known journalist who finds herself in a situation she never expected.

After making a career out of exposing other people’s wrongdoings and indiscretions, she is perplexed when she receives a novel that uncovers all of her secrets and has Catherine as the main character.

The author is unknown, and she’ll embark on a mission to discover who they are and deal with the consequences of having her life so casually revealed.

The first image from Disclaimer shows Blanchett wearing platinum-blonde hair on a frigid day, seemingly after her world has flipped upside down.

She is shocked by something, implying that another secret was exposed or the book’s author finally revealed themselves to her. We’ll have to wait until the series launches this autumn, or at least until the first trailer, to find the answer!

5. What the Cast and Crew Has to Say About the Show

In a discussion with Screenrant, Alfonso Cuaron spoke about the Adaption Process:

Well, it’s like everything. When you read something, the important thing is that – at least in my case – it’s immediate. You’re just reading a few pages; it already speaks to you as a film. That was the case for [Disclaimer].

Of course, when you think it springs out and becomes a film in your head, it’s very specific. You have to be very discriminating about what you choose or don’t choose from the book because you’re creating a completely different form. I think the novel lent itself with incredible material and narrative lines, and then we elaborated mostly on those.”

Leila George also expressed her views regarding play in the young Cate Blanchett:

“I don’t think you can become one with her. I think she’s uniquely perfect, and I feel like she is the queen of the acting world. I hope I got as close as possible; I think only she would decide that. But it was amazing, and it was such an honor to [do it]. I still can’t believe this is happening, and I got the opportunity to do this.

She was so generous with me when I arrived, saying, “Hey, she’s yours now. Go for it.” We had some conversations, and I saw some scenes she’d done. I think I watched every single movie she’s ever done again, just to be in her zeitgeist, I guess. But she was generous with it and just said, “Good luck,” which was liberating. I’m very grateful and honored to share any space with her.
