Neil Druckmann, the co-director of The Last of Us show as well as the video game it was based on, has announced wrapping up his episodes on November 7, 2021.
Druckmann was revealed to be directing one or more episodes of the new video game adaptation from HBO. Production in its entirety is expected to wrap up by June 2022, but Druckmann’s tweet suggests he has completed directing the episodes he was roped in for.
Druckmann called the TV crew “the best,” thanking them for their “incredible work” and “passion.” He uploaded a photo of The Last of Us cap and the slate with ‘328c’ written in the Screen space. The director also announced his homecoming to the video game developer, Naughty Dog Studios, where he served as vice president during productions for the games The Last of Us and Uncharted.

The enthusiasm and excitement are at an all-time high, especially since Druckmann and Pedro Pascal showed fans the first look of the upcoming series. Pascal as smuggler Joel and Bella Ramsey as the teenager-in-protection Ellie were photographed overlooking the vast plain and airplane debris looked right out of a screenshot from the epic game.
Meanwhile, Druckmann’s choice to particularly keep Scene 328c visible has fans wondering if it is a crucial moment in the show.
Expectations for the show are understandably high considering the game’s cinematography and epic graphics were what fans fell in love with. Now, to have one of the original directors working on the adaptation too must be quite the rush.
The Last of Us series reportedly had five directors on the show’s production list on the Directors Guild of Canada. The show has been filming in Canada, despite being set in the United States.
The Last of Us Season 1 will feature ten episodes and might drop at the end of 2022.
