Aquaman 2 finally has a name and it’s Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Director James Wan revealed the title for the much-anticipated Aquaman sequel via Instagram.
Wan posted a picture on his Instagram account from a production meeting. The picture featured the title in what looked like a potential logo for the film. However, it is unclear whether this will end up being the final logo for the film.
The caption read, “The tide is rising.”
Last year at the DC FanDome panel, Wan teased that Aquaman 2 would have a darker tone than the first film.
“The second one is a little bit more serious, a little bit more relevant to the world we’re living in today. That’s where it wants to go.”

Aquaman (2018) was a massive hit and became DCEU’s biggest success, grossing over $1.13 billion at the worldwide box office. This basically guaranteed that Warner Bros. would begin working on a sequel sooner or later.
Not much has since been revealed about Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Based on the title, it’s a fair guess that the film would focus on the Seven Kingdoms of Atlantis. The first movie acted as a base to introduce Aquaman, Atlantis’ history, and how it fell into the ocean.
The seven kingdoms include Atlantis, Xebel, Fisherman, Brine, Trench, Deserters, and a lost seventh kingdom. Arthur Curry unites the six kingdoms of Atlantis in Aquaman, so it would be only logical to expect the seventh kingdom to be an important element in the sequel’s story.
The screenplay will be written by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, who co-wrote the screenplay for the first film. Jason Momoa, who will be reprising his role as Aquaman/Arthur Curry, has said that he will be traveling to Hawaii in July to begin filming.
Despite petitions signed by millions to remove Amber Heard and rumors that Emilia Clarke would replace her as Mera were surfacing online late last year, Heard recently confirmed that she will be returning for the sequel. Patrick Wilson and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II will be returning as well, while Game of Thrones’ Pilou Asbæk recently joined the cast.
Fans still have to wait for quite a while before Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom drops. Meanwhile, DCEU’s slate is packed with other exciting films, like The Suicide Squad, The Batman, Black Adam, The Flash, and Shazam! Fury of the Gods.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom has a release date set for December 16, 2022.

About Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is a 2023 American superhero film based on the DC character Aquaman. Produced by DC Studios, Atomic Monster, and the Safran Company, and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, it is the sequel to Aquaman (2018), and the 15th and final installment in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU).
The film was directed by James Wan from a screenplay by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick and stars Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry / Aquaman, alongside Patrick Wilson, Amber Heard, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Randall Park, Dolph Lundgren, Temuera Morrison, Martin Short, and Nicole Kidman.
In the film, Arthur must work with his half-brother Orm (Wilson) to prevent Black Manta (Abdul-Mateen II) from killing his family and using the cursed Black Trident to overheat the world while searching for the lost seventh kingdom of the seas.
