Director James Gunn reveals that the last installment of the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy will contain the emotional backstory of our beloved Rocket.
The team Guardians of the Galaxy has featured in several MCU movies and has played integral roles as supporting characters to our favorite Avengers.
In fact, Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Drax (Dave Bautista), Rocket (Bradley Cooper), and Groot (Vin Diesel) are set to go on intergalactic adventures once again in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which will be the final installment of the Gunn trilogy.
While the premise of Guardians of Galaxy Vol. 3 is up for speculation, Gunn revealed that much of it will explore the origins of Rocket in an interview with ComicBook.com.

Volume 3 is a really a very emotional movie. And it tells this story about Rocket and where he came from and where he’s going, and how that ties into everybody else, and the end of this iteration of The Guardians.
While the previous installments of Guardians of the Galaxy hardly talk about Rocket’s origins, we do get a reference to the Halfworld.
A sneak peek into the comics will help us understand his story better. The comics say that a group of scientists tasked with caring for ill humans created Rocket Racoon. They made such creatures to take care of those humans in their absence.
It is still being determined whether MCU will follow the exact storyline as the books, but we can assume they will be similar.
In the books, the raccoons continue to care for the ailing humans even after getting abandoned by the scientists. In fact, Rocket teams up with Hulk to save Halfworld and save his girlfriend, Lylla.
Cooper’s version of Rocket seems like a grumpy man-child. He has a short temper and fears emotional vulnerability. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will have the chance to explore the character in depth and give him some form of closure.
It is only natural to assume that the entire story won’t be covered in the upcoming movie, but we can expect bits and pieces of the story to merge to create a bombastic climax!
