Digital Release Announced for 4 Shaman King Spinoffs in August

Shaman King debuted in the Weekly Shonen Jump in 1998 and abruptly ended in 2004. It finally received its true ending in 2009 after being reprinted. A new anime adaptation was announced recently and is set to premiere in 2021.

Along with this anime, the creators of Shaman King have decided to publish all 35 volumes of the series through the year.

Kodansha Comics announced on Thursday during its online panel at San Diego Comic-Con@Home that it has licensed four Shaman King spinoff mangas to release digitally in August.

Kodansha announced the following four spinoffs by Hiroyuki Take will release in August:

  • Shaman King: Zero about the world before the shaman tournament releases on August 4
  • Shaman King Flowers revolving around Hana Asakura will release on August 11
  • Shaman King: Super Star will release on August 18
  • Shaman King: Red Crimson illustrated by jet Kusamura about Tao Jun and Lee Pai-Long’s battle against red crimson will release on August 25

The original Shaman king series sold over 35 million copies, and Kodansha announced it would come in 11 three-in-one omnibus editions of the manga in between 2021-22.

These announcements will allow the series fans to relive it once more, not just with an anime but also with its source material and spinoffs.

Shaman King is a manga written and illustrated by Hiroyuki Takei. It began serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump from June 30, 1998.

The series received an abrupt end on August 30, 2004, leaving fans disappointed. The manga received a reprint in 2009 to give its fans the true ending to the series. It also received an adaptation by studio Xebec in 2001 that was directed by Seiji Mizushima.

It introduces us to a world of shamans. These Shamans are powerful beings who can see and communicate with spirits, ghosts, and gods. Once in 500 years, a prestigious tournament called The Shaman Fight is organized, and the winner gets to shape the world in his image with the aid of the great spirits.

The story revolves around Manta Oyamada, who has a chance encounter with You Asakura that completely changes his life. Asakura aims to become the Shaman King, aided by Manta and his 600-year-old samurai friend Amidamaru. They set out to fulfill You’s dream.
