We got to see the origins of our protagonist Hiro and how he met his first Digimon. I’m sure there is more to this part than what had been shown, but his adventure has officially started.
In the first episode, we saw everyone panic over particular recurring attacks happening to multiple students whose time was stolen from them, and they aged rapidly. Our protagonist, Hiro, was dragged into this mess by his friend, who became a victim of one of these attacks.

Recap of Episode 1
Episode 1, titled “The Sewn-lip Man,” starts with a student getting her time stolen from a hologram-like being, making her age rapidly.
This incident just added to the number of victims attacked in this same terrible way.
Nonetheless, since this time it happened in a prestigious school, rumors started to spread that it was the ghost of a Sewn-lip man who is going around stealing people’s lifespan.
One very detailed part of this rumor is that he asks his victims the time before stealing their time.
Many students are hyped after this incident and set out to confirm this rumor. Nomura drags Hiro with him to investigate this rumor just to impress a girl.
When Hiro and Nomura reach the auditorium where the incident occurred, they realize that something is odd.
Soon their watches stop working, and they hear a voice asking them the time. They then see the hologram-like figure hovering around them.
It attacks Nomura while he clicks many pics of it and has his time stolen from him. After that, it proceeds to attack Hiro but is interrupted by supervisors entering the auditorium.
Hiro is then sent to his dorm room, and his senior comes to him and hands him a talisman for good luck.
Hiro feels a little off sitting in his room. He then proceeds to take out the possessions left by his dad.
He unknowingly inserts a drive into the watch, which causes everything around him to get digitized. He then sees a weird monster-like creature in the room that immediately recognizes him.
Hiro’s dad pops up in the form of a pre-recorded hologram and explains the existence of Digital Monsters or Digimons.
Before the message ends, he also tells him that the monster-like creature is Gammamon, and he has to take care of it like a little brother.
Immediately following that, the Sewn-lip man, who introduces himself as Clockmon, attacks Hiro, but Gammamon jumps in to protect him this time.
Clockmon attacks Gammamon and tries to steal his time but realizes that Gaammamon’s true potential is far too powerful to steal immediately.
The episode ends with Hiro helping Gammamon with some unknown power to defeat Clockmon, returning everyone back to normal.
About Digimon
Digimon, short for “Digital Monsters,” is a Japanese media franchise offering toy pets, manga, anime, games, films, and even a trading card game. The franchise was created back in 1997 as a series of virtual pets, influenced by Tamagotchi/nano Giga Pet toys.
The franchise gained momentum with its first anime, Digimon Adventure, and an early video game, Digimon World, both of which were released in 1999.
Digimon, the series focuses on monsters like creatures, who inhabit a “Digital World,” a parallel universe that originated from Earth’s various communication networks. Digimon hatch from eggs called Digi-Eggs, and they go through Digivolution, which changes their appearance and increases their powers over time.
The effect of Digivolution, however, is not permanent. Digimon who have digivolved will find most of the time revert back to their previous form after a battle or if they are too weak to continue. Most of them can even speak.
